I've had a rough couple of weeks and everything is pissing me off. As long as I'm here, I'll share the things that are irritating me about Tacomas, the fads that they inspire and the products available for them as I prepare to build mine. First and foremost, I'm not talking shit about anyone in particular, anyone's truck in particular or anyone's products in particular. This is just generalized complaining and is most likely not worth your time.

    1. Aftermarket winch bumpers - Why do almost all of them dip down around the grill in the middle? It looks stupid and must cost more to make than just going straight across. Many of these bumpers would look great if they didn't have the dip. Also, why do so many of them mount the winch at a downward angle? Ugh.

    2. Fake beadlocks. WHY???? Oh dear God, Make it stop.

    3. LEDs. They are great technology and are leaps and bounds above the halogens that we used to run but HOW MUCH LIGHT DO YOU REALLY NEED???? I see trucks running around with 174,000,000,000 Gigawatts of lighting power. Lightbar on top of the cab, light bar on or in the bumper, lights in the bumper ends, ditch lights on the hood, LED headlights...Stop it. Aircraft don't have that much light to land with. Baseball stadiums have night games with less light. Enough. And super bright LEDs inside your truck? Are you doing surgery in there? WTF? AAAAAGHHH!!!! Why do otherwise reasonable people suddenly transform into Clark Griswold from Christmas Vacation where these LEDs are concerned?

    4. Bed Racks - I don't hate these, I just hate that they're almost a required part of every Tacoma at this point. They're great for those that actually use them, stupid if theyre just for decoration.

    5. "Which 35 inch tires will fit without rubbing with no lift and no trimming?" None of them. Stop it.

    6. Stock TRD Off Road wheels - These are quite possibly the ugliest wheels ever made in the history of the world. I firmly believe that if the caveman who invented the wheel could have seen these, he would have destroyed his creation in order to protect humanity. He was a good guy and he cared about people.

    7. "Tactical" stuff. Stop it. Unless you use your truck for military or law enforcement work, just stop it.

    8. All kinds of shit mounted to the dash. You've got two tablets, three cell phones, two GPS units, a weather radio and a satellite uplink to the international space station hanging off your dash. All of this shit and you're just going to the mall because cinnamon rolls arer half price today. Get a map.

    9. The "Bro" thing. Enough said.

    10. Aftermarket exhausts - They all sound like shit. On raspy 4 cylinders or nice V8's, they can be like music. V6's (all of them) sound like shit with loud exhausts. Stop it.

That's all for now. This is meant to be tongue in cheek, so try not to get your tactical panties in a bunch. Just venting. Besides, I said right up front that it wasn't worth your time.

Figured you were just a lurker. You have been a member for a few years. Do you know what Molle is? like cops and members of the military wear to attach tools, bags, pouches? Picture that... EVERYWHERE. That is one example.

I had gotten rid of my seatbelts, and had been using Alice clips to clip into my Molle seat cover.

I figured this is what OP implied, but I was just checking.

Also vehicle mounted holsters are dumb, keep that mf thang on you.

    I’ll bite.

If I have 4/10 rants that apply to me. Where do I fall on your “triggered scale”?

My fake headlocks look better than the stock TRD OR wheels you despise. They also came with the truck when I bought it used. Will you spare me?

I think tactical gear in a truck makes for an effective way of utilizing space, and consolidating essentials you may need. Do I have to be exclusively a service member fighting Al Queda in my 3rd gen for you to OK it?

Most people with mounting stuff on their dash have a reason. A dual band radio, CB, GPS, and tablet all have their purposes and can provide a safety net and lines of connectivity for backcountry trips. Should they take them off every time they want a cinnamon roll at the mall, or should they PM you beforehand asking for permission?

I joke, and I could continue to go on and on, but the point is that anyone can build their truck as they see fit. Some people aren’t building their trucks for strictly overlanding or offroading. Some folks just want a pretty pavement princess. I’m personally building mine for SAR/backcountry first responder purposes as well as a backcountry guiding transport. My needs and wants out of my truck are different then yours, and folks have already relied on my truck to save their lives in the past. Different strokes for different folks. Good luck with your build though and keep us all updated.
