All the fellas want to be in the cool gang on TW, but only the select people actually buy the Tacoma. This whole site is full of wannabes. It’s like wearing a Motörhead t-shirt while listening to Hall and Oates in your ear buds. Both are great bands, but you gotta choose your path in life.

    Yaaaa I don’t know...

People say they are better made and they ride smoother. I don’t have any complaints with the build quality of my Taco and already factored in a “spirited” ride into the OR equation.

That said, the differences IMO are:

—more aggressive and edgy design with the 4R—your preference may be different, but I think the Taco is a much more unified design and more attractive

—older engine—could be a plus from some people’s point of view, but worse mpg among other things

—no manual with the 4R—BIG deficit as far as I’m concerned

—more dated interior styling especially tech—this really bugged me when I compared the 4R vs Taco—the Taco has a very nice, understated interior design which I really dig

—I didn’t obsessively side by side them, but it seemed to me to get the same features in the 4R in an OffRoad trim would have been quite a bit more $$. Not to diss SR5s—my BIL has an SR5 4R which he loves and which suits his needs (family hauling, off-roading, mountain biking) just fine—but the lower trims to me look cheap, while the higher trims are super-expensive.

Anyway, I pretty much agree with the above—if you want an open bed, the Taco is for you, if for some reason you want a closed rear compartment, the 4R would suit you.

Maybe worse MPG, but it's nice having torque at 2000 RPMs

In order to be a fair comparison, you must start with a double cab. I've checked and the difference isn't much.

EDIT: I just looked quick. In the Milwaukee area, the cheapest crew cab TRD off road Tacoma has an MSRP of $38,077, while a TRD off road 4runner starts at $39,494. Not a big difference at all, really

I think a manual transmission option would be nice.

Of course, we'll have different preferences. That's why we bought what we bought. I hang out with the Tacoma crew from Wisconsin pretty regularly. There's no rivalry here. Aside from some friendly trash talking;)

I got this TRD OR 4-runner for just a few hundred more than the Tacoma in same trim. Got it for 37k before TTL.

    Exactly my feelings!

I miss my 4Runner, but for now the bed is a necessity. A bit better mileage is nicer, too.

Anyone here for any time knows Tacomaworld is a welcoming place for everyone.

It must be very liberating for you and the many others (some even in this thread) to loudly and proudly embrace your feminine side in such a public 4Runner owning way.

Once again, good luck with the new ride and don't let anyone make you feel bad because you are driving a "soccer mom" vehicle.

    Cheers
