Don't Tacoma Headlights Go Off Automatically?

Maybe different years the time IS variable, but you are correct. I just went out to my Taco and checked the time to OFF of the cab illumination.
On my Taco If I leave the headlights ON after engine OFF, they turn off immediately at door open.

 

For the headlights to be ON after engine off and the light switch also set to OFF, would be a bad Main Body ECU.

 

Mine do too.
Turn off as soon as you open the door.

I have no idea on the dome light.
Never use it. I keep it turned off.

 

Also, if you have a non-oem alarm, that uses the headlight circuit it too may cause headlights to be ON after everything else is off. (read failing)

 

Yes, as they have done for almost two decades now, even if the headlight switch is left in the on position. But they didn't today and I killed my battery. That was a $200 mistake. (In 2018, it was only a $88 mistake.)

 

If they stayed on, and you didn’t enter the truck, or place the key back in the ignition, it’s likely a bad door switch, wiring to the ECM form the switch, or ECM. I highly doubt it’s the ECM.

Does the door open light come on when the drivers door is open?
Open and close it multiple times. Don’t press it in with hand. Use the door.

 

The door trigger is same for both systems. i.e. Cab illumination and headlight auto turn off.

 

Both the dome light and the door open indicator on the dashboard come on each time I open the door. I opened and closed it several times, but they seemed to be working normally. :/
