I have a 2023 Tacoma SR5 that I bought in August. It is a great truck but now I'm having a couple of issues. I had a third party remote starter installed last week by a very reliable and reputable auto electrical shop. They installed the same type of starter in my 2020 Tacoma when I bought it back then and I had absolutely no issues. This starter also works great. But I've noticed that in case I am driving with a door ajar, I get no message about it like I did before. Also I've noticed that my door locks seem to be a bit erratic. Sometimes they will unlock when I touch the handle and sometimes not. I have to use the fob to unlock them when it happens. I've also noticed that my DRLs and headlamps sometimes stay on after I turn off the truck. Came out of the grocery store this morning only to see that the lights had been for more than 20 minutes. I figure this must all be related to the installation of the starter. Does anybody else have any other ideas? Thanks!

None of this happened before? I would take it back to the shop for them to troubleshoot or uninstall to see if the issues persist.

Could be a bad install or bad component.

Take it back then. They messed something up and should fix or got a bad unit.
After all, that is why you chose them, right? Aside from hoping not to have to in the first place of course.

After reading lots and lots of these threads it's always ... after I installed some 3rd-party something-or-other

FOLLOW-UP: Took my truck back to the electrical shop this morning. They said that when they installed the remote starter, they also had to install a solid-state relay that apparently sensed and controlled everything pertaining to the driver's door. The relay was bad from the box. As soon as they replaced it, everything returned to normal and all problems were resolved. Door ajar warning is good, all locks work on all doors, light are working normally. All good.

Good you got it fixed AND followed up, in case someone else has the same issue.

Nice! Glad it was an easy-ish fix.
