I’ve looked through threads to find someone with a similar experience but it seems everyone has the opposite problem.

My driver door ajar sensor on my 2018 trdor isn’t working, so my truck never registers when my door is open. It’s a very minor inconvenience, really only annoying at night when I’m trying to grab all my stuff to take inside and the interior lights time out because of not registering that my door is still open.

Anyone else experience this and have a fix? Or is it just something screwed up with mine

Ever figure this out? I had this exact issue on my 2016 tonight. For anyone else struggling with this maybe my explanation will help. Now I may be getting my terms confused here but when I say door jam or sensor I mean the same thing, the little black rubber piece that you can push in and out, will trigger the door ajar notification. I recently got into the back of my double cab and noticed the lights weren’t coming on. Me being me I decided to trouble shoot. Disconnect battery, pull the door jam sensor. Couldn’t figure out the issue. I should have started by testing the clip connecting to the door jam and looking to see how it all worked before continuing but I was pissed off and on a mission. I quickly unplugged my driver door sensor and replaced the rear door jam sensor with it. To no avail. I then plugged the driver sensor back in and was going to call it a night, the driver now no longer worked. I attempted to pull the plug again and upon putting pressure on the wire I noticed the sensor would begin working again; however, not when it was all bolted up. Here’s where my luck came in. I pulled the b piller between the seats and the one behind the passenger seat. I started to trace wires. When looking at my driver wire I found a place where friction had worn through the sheath. I wrapped and shrunk a new sheath around it. I then plugged the door jam sensor was hint back in and still, nothing. At this point I’m
Beyond confused and I decide to finally get my multimeter. I test for current at the plugs of both the driver and rear driver passenger for voltage. 1.7, “okay they’re both getting power. Then why the truck aren’t they working, I knew atleast one sensor was good. While looking at the mounting point and the sensor I realized one thing. There’s a metal plaTe visible on the rear of the jam that is he screw goes into, it then goes from there into an unpainted hole on the truck frame… this is where the sensor grounds… it all made sense, I quickly tested the sensor when plugged in by putting one lead on the back plate and another on the hole. “Bing” the light came on in the truck. I then realized the reason for the drive door not working was because of the early grounding of the wire I had found. Excited I put the driver back together and had figured it must just be a bad door jam, I hooked it back up in the rear and was going to just order a new one online. “Bing” the door ajar lit up. Guessing from this the wires must be somehow connected and the short from the driver door jam had caused the rear to stop working. If I wouldn’t have decided to swap the sensors around I never would have found the cut in the sheath. Moral of the story, trace the wires and use a multimeter. Also be sure to check for a good ground connection from bolt to frame and apply some electric grease to the pins. Doesn’t always need it I suppose, but can’t hurt!

Holy cow , I have been suffering from this for a few weeks now . Driver side rear door sensor works when it wants or doesn't at all. I'm a 2017 ,with 143,000 miles . I too rely on the sensor so I can prepare for work when on jobsite.

Another thing it's also my passenger rear door also . I do have kids and they occasionally slam the doors which I tell em not too. Also I keep a work tote in the back seat . So my rear doors get used alot
