Door Checks from AM Auto Parts

Caveat Emptor

In February of this year I replaced the driver side door check using a new part from AM Auto Parts for $30.


It worked fine for awhile, but now the door check makes a horrible noise each time I open or close the door. Also, when I open the door and look at where the arm of the check enters the door, the rubber flap appears to be pulling out of the door somewhat.

For what it's worth, I sprayed some silicone stuff on the arm and after opening and closing the door a few times, the noise went away. However, I can still feel a rough spot when I close the door and now the door doesn't stay open all the way like it did right after I installed the new check.

'Spose sooner or later I'll hafta dig deep, deep down into my pocket for an $90+ door check from Toyota (or keep my silicone spray handy)...
