    Hi All,

I have a weird problem, searched all the forums but haven't found a post that matches my issue exactly. Since I bought this truck, the door chime will go off as long as the truck is hooked up to the battery and the drivers side door is open. This happens whether a key is in the ignition or not.

From my understanding, the door chime should only go off if the key is in the ignition and either turned to the acc or the on position. I was wondering if anyone might know what would be causing this and how I could fix it?

Take off the plunger looking switch off driver side (B pillar) and inspect

or just press….see if you hear a click or if feels crunchy when you press
Switch should be surrounded by a rubber accordion looking cover

Hmmm, that is interesting. One of the things that I replaced when I got the truck was the ignition cylinder. The previous owner had rigged up some ignition that could be turned with pretty much any key, and you could also take the key out in any position.... Wonder if he mangled something in there.

The switch is held on by two screws under the cylinder....

and they do go bad in different ways...

this one use to be mine........it started popping the am2 fuse when you accelerated at weird times...

Really the cylinder and switch should be replaced every 150K....
after that.....they can send you walking.....

If you wait too late on the cylinder and cant key it to accessory.....then you have to drill it out.........number vids out there with the O' drill....

That switch is so important I keep a spare used one off a corrolla my glove box...
