Drivers' side door has a loud clunk when closing, a few inches before it fully closes. I can definitely feel the clunk. No clunk when opening. There is no damage to the door, the door is not catching on the body, hinges are fine, so I think it must be in the catch slider mechanism. It's time for 5K service, so I hope dealer will figure it out & fix.

If your speaking about the access cab that thud is from the safety button which disables the rear access door latch from being used in the event the larger doors aren't opened. (test it; tape it down and close door it sounds quiet) but also disables the rear access door from being used)

No, this is a DCSB, four door, driver's side door and the clunk is inside the door.

Sounds like it's coming from the catch arm (black plastic, indexed travel limiter thing), or the area where it would be, inside the door when the door is almost closed.

Maybe if I remove the switch panel, I can figure out what's happening. Could be a wire or harness has come loose and catches the end of the arm when the door is closed.

It is definitely the end of the limiter arm hitting the window track. There does not seem to be any way to adjust the limiter arm to move it into a position where it will not contact the window track.

Complete bullshit, this is a design flaw or workmanship flaw.

CHECKSTRAP CHECKSTRAP IT'S CALLED A CHECKSTRAP!!!

I pulled the door panel off and removed the speaker for access to the interior door, using the info provided in the speaker upgrade thread. The end of the checkstrap is definitely hitting the window guide.

If you are hearing it when opening as well, or hearing snap/clunk at every detent in the checkstrap, it is more likely loose nuts on the checkstrap anchors. 10mm socket: check tightness of the nuts. If loose, remove, add threadlock, reattach. Google search tells me that is a common problem on many Toyota vehicles

Mysteriously, today at the dealer the door problem is barely noticeable! I told the service guy it is normally MUCH worse and very noticeable. He said the checkstrap does not even go into the door enough to hit the window guide... I disabused him of that opinion.

Here's some info from another forum:

My passenger door got yanked open by some crazy b**** one time and it damaged the door check arm. It appeared fine upon inspection, but it bent it ever so slightly and when the door opened and closed it would hit the window channel guide rail in the door. Ended up bending the guide channel and window wouldn't roll down or up. Cost $120 in parts for a new guide channel and check arm.

If your window still rolls up/down fine without dragging or slowing down like resistance, then you'll probably just need a new check arm. Its SUPER easy to replace with 10mm socket and removing the door panel. Takes 10 minutes. OEM check arm is about $75-85

Service guy from the dealer says, yep, the door check is bad (and annoying). They ordered the part and are going to replace it next week when it comes in.

    I was pleasantly surprised!

Sweet thread, man. Same exact issue on used 2018 We just bought. Just spent like 25 minutes comparing the two doors and suspected broken check arm. Checked Tacoma World and here you had it all laid out for me. Thanks, checking bolts now and will replace arm if necessary. Definitely feels like someone opened the door too far at some point… but this is a truck! Would not expect door opening to damage check arm.

Photo 1 Passenger side, catch arm bolts recessed… no noise

Photo 2 Driver side, catch arm bolts not recessed, proud by a few mm or so… “clunk” a couple inches before closing

my 2017 just started doing this recently. All bolts are tight and window rolls down fine. The catch look fine too. I'm guessing ill need to just replace the catch arm?
