Skip the stores during "prime time"! Have the entire parking lot to yourself at 3am. I work 3rd shift and around 8am most lots are pretty empty and there isn't much traffic inside either. Also, I don't go to WalMart.

Don't be lazy with your parking, park next to vehicles more expensive then yours, they won't ding up your truck.

Park next to a beat up vehicle, most likely that person doesn't care about their vehicles so they will most likely ding yours up. Park away from people and out of ways of shopping carts, if the parking lot is on a slope, park somewhere carts can't come rolling into it.

Don't be lazy and park as far away as possible and be picky about who you park next to. Do what I do, I love my vehicles too much, I rather park far and walk from there.

I wish that were true. When we got my wife's car in 2006 we parked away from everyone and in front of a Mercedes, nose to nose with 2 feet between the cars. The lady was pushing a shopping cart as we passed by her as we were heading in. By the time we exited the building and came back, the Mercedes was gone, and there was a 16" scratch along the passenger door where either a key, or edge of the shopping cart was pushed along the door.

I really believe a lot of people just don't care and figure "oh, not my problem, not my car/truck" and just go about their day. Then the bitch, piss, moan and groan about how something bad happened to them because of xyz.

My MIL gets out of a car by reaching for the door handle and pushing down and out, thus forcefully swinging the door out oblivious to anything around her. She is not elderly, overweight or feeble. I cringe when she gets out and park the driveway cars as far apart as possible when she visits. She has probably dinged thousands over the years. One SIL does the same thing. Some people just walk around oblivious to others.

Sorry that didn't add any solutions to the problem, just an observation.

I went to auction and bought wrecked ford focus cheap. Did the repairs myself and ended up with nice little grocery getter. Cheap to insure and gets good mileage, Tacoma stays in garage on shopping days. Cheap car is cheaper than body shop nowdays.

image.jpg image.jpg Avoid parking lots. Get Amazon Prime. Joking, but I use it all the time.

I actually just replaced my N Fab steps with some OEM running boards for better door ding protection.

Or, get both sliders AND running boards! Double protection!! This Hummer parks next to me every day at work. It has some fake slider/running board thingy.

    Clean lookin ride
Like the oem boards as well. Best feature to me is not having to refinish them every couple years from rock chips etc from our shitty winter gravel roads.

I have the OEM running boards. The main reason for getting them are for 'door ding protection' and I step on them to wash my truck (so I can reach the roof & windows). I also park out in east Egypt when I can.

I put Double cab running boards on my access cab so I'd have 'wheel to wheel' coverage (so to speak).

I just park away from the crowd. Usually if either of my car are clean, people won't park right next to me

So, what do you do about vehicles that have high clearance, like other trucks? If I had the only truck in the world, those Nerf bars would be perfect. However, where I live, it is probably a vast majority trucks and SUV's, not little cars. Hence, their doors go right over the bars.

I always try to park proper and far away, yet some a$$hole always seems to find me. My otherwise spotless '14 has several nasty dings... and I am not seeing a decent solution. I wish Toyota would have just put some molding strips on the doors.

Sliders/Nerf bars will really only stop sedans for the most part. The bigger vehicles, such as suburbans, SUVs, some minivans, and other trucks are what those items will not protect against.

I've got a passenger side ding that went through my clear coat and the first layer of paint. It was either a truck, suburban, or SUV because it's in the upper-middle section of my door. :frusty:

You can add your own molding strip and use oem stay paint in it.

Don't you have to drill the door to attach it, or is there one that uses some kind of adhesive?

3M extreme adhesive double sided tape. This works fine for most folks vs the more expensive automotive tape. Just make sure your surface is absolutely clean before applying.
