Door handle Came off????

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. I was coming up my driveway, when I heard a bang!...What the Hell...didn't hit anything...

When I looked, by Driver Rear Door Handle came off and was lying about 5 feet from the driveway...no other damage to the truck of the handle...no scratches or dings...nothing. No debris on or near the driveway itself...

Anyone every heard of anything like this?

Anything can break, but I’ve never heard of such a thing. The “bang” still makes me wonder if something hit it, maybe a direct impact. If it were the 80s and we lived next door, my friends and I would be blamed and forced to pay restitution, regardless of proof.

 

Wonder is someone was trying to gain entry and kinda messed it up and it was just messed up enough to finally bite the dust,
or in this case, bite the pavement.

 

Maybe it was aliens. They do stuff like that

 

This story sounds very improbable? But then again, I guess anything is possible.

 

Does Toyota subcontract with Boeing for doors?

 

The driveway is gravel...I was thinking maybe a rock popped up and knocked it off...you would think there would be a ding or something. The fact that is was about 5 feet off the drive in some brush is what really confuses me. My mechanic had no idea either. Wierd.

You didn’t mention the year of your vehicle, I had my older first gen drivers handle snap off and it wasn’t because of vandalism, it was through years of use and age because it happened as I was pulling on it to open the door. Does yours happen to be a 2016 or 17? Does the sun hit your handle where you park all the time?

 

Someone ripped it off trying to break in.

 

Was a handle itself broken or did it come off whole?

 

I would trade it in, it’s falling apart right in front of you JK. SH10151 has a great point someone may have tried to break in. Door handles just don’t fall off without some kinda warning.

You were driving up your driveway or walking? I'm assuming driving.
Someone removed your doorhandle, waited for you to return home, as you were driving up your driveway, they hid in the bushes and threw the door handle at your truck creating the loud *BANG* you heard. The door handle bounced off the truck and landed in the bushes while the assailant ran off giggling at what they had done.

 

Yes it's common on 1st gens, and many Toyota models in the '90s.

And people say Toyota don't build them like they used to...

At my sister’s business we have video of a guy putting his foot on the back door of her Duramax Chevy and then grabbing the front door handle and trying to just rip it open like that by using his lower body as leverage.

He was trying to get at the tools inside.

And yep..the sun hits it all the time. There looks to be a small plastic piece on the back that has snapped. I had just come home from Lowes, having opened the and closed the same door to put stuff on the back seat floor. Worked fine there.
