I have a 2000 Tacoma with the 2.7. I have experienced acceleration hesitation around 2000 RMPs. I cleaned the throttle body and did not notice any change. My second attempt to correct this was to change the TPS. That seemed to fixed the problem at the time. The acceleration hesitation has reappeared occasionally. May be due to how warm the engine is. Has anyone experienced this and could suggest how to correct the problem?
    Thank you

Could be many things honestly. MAF, transmission related, fuel filter, old fuel pump, gasoline quality, etc. I wouldn't really know what to say..

Is the check engine light on? Any trouble codes?

Thank you for responding. There isn’t a CEL on. I did change the plugs and wires two years ago and cleaned the MAF sensor at the same time. When the truck hesitates it feels like it’s out of timing for a while until the RPM’s get to about 2300. Could the coils be causing the problem. I would have already changes the fuel filter if it wasn’t it such a difficult place to get to. I’m considering relocating it when I change it. Any tips on that would be appreciated.

My gut says that sluggishness that seems to be related to heat and rpm suggests an ignition problem. I would pull the coils and have a look at them for cracks and then test them electrically.

I looked at relocating the fuel filter and decided not to. It’s in a safe spot under the intake and it doesn’t need to be changed often. I think I went through the wheel well to get it.

My brother has a 2000 4runner with the 2.7L. We changed all plugs, wires and coilpacks and I cleaned the MAF correctly this past weekend. Now he reports occasional hesitation when accelerating. The AF is new and we didn't find any vacuum leaks. I suspect a fuel delivery issue. The CEL is on, with 2 codes: a downstream O2 sensor and an IAT sensor, neither of which we attempted to address, yet.
Any half way decent ideas for a good direction outside of the 2 codes?

All kinds 3 inch body lift/2 1/2 suspension lift. 31/11 1/2/15 tires All work done by myself for years. The only work performed by mechanic was fuel pumps. I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
My 2.7 has never moved very good. The only it really moves is if you floor it, and with 289K I dont really want to get on it.

Did you find a solution? I have the exact same problem, sometimes when Cold the engine runs fine, but after some warm up it starts doing this, i have to give it more gas, its really anoying when driving at low speeds, i already changed the TPS sensor, cleaned MAF, changed Coils, changed filters, and spark plugs even the head gasket, after changing the TPS it improved but just for some time
