OP, if I remember correctly when I did the Kicker speaker upgrade, the inside door handle assembly can pop out of the door panel after you take out the screw. Pop out the handle and fish the cable with a long nose plier, or try to lasso it with twine and pull the cable to reopen the door. I thought about this before I actually tore the door panels off. I was worried about forgetting to reinstall the cables too and had that idea in the back of my mind.

Posting this as I had an issue very close to this and my solution was quite simple. I'm only hoping this post might help someone else in the future! Reference remgu2000's picture above to see the parts I am referring to...

    ISSUE
During a rear door speaker upgrade, I took off the rear passenger side door card. When I put it back on I did not realize the plastic end of the cable that attaches the door handle (green cable end) and door lock (white cable end) into the door handle assembly was not fully seated in its notch They need to be pressed into their respective slots until they click in place because they are held in by a small notch. Once I replaced the door card and shut my rear passenger door, it would not open. The door handle, when pulled, felt exactly like it should when the door is locked. I was not able to manually flip the lock knob from locked to unlocked from the inside. There was resistance when trying to flip it to unlocked. I removed the rear seat and all of the rear plastic trim I could in order to see if I could get to the lock from inside. Nothing worked.

Again, look at remgu2000's picture above to see the white and green plastic cable ends. In regmu's picture, the green door handle cable is not pressed into the notch enough to be fully seated and clicked into place, and the white one is... I could have reached the white one by removing the flat interior door handle cover (the one that hides the screw) if I used small hemostats. My problem was the white one and I couldn't reach it that way because the lock knob was in the way.

    SOLUTION
To fix the door lock cable problem, I grabbed a small pry bar - about 6 inches long but a small flat head screwdriver would work, too - and stuck it into the gap on the top of the door lock knob, between the door lock knob and frame of the handle assembly. Then, I pried by pushing the pry bar up. That forced the door lock knob out of the housing and it hung there still attached to the end of the cable. I reached into the handle assembly with hemostats and used them to grab the white plastic cable end. Then I pushed the cable into the cable sheath (toward the white plastic cable end) and my door unlocked. When I removed my door card, my picture was a very similar to regmu2000's picture above. My green one was snapped into its slot but the white one was not. I reassembled the door lock knob into position, clicked the white cable end into it's notched slot and put the door card back on. Problem solved.

Note that prying the door lock knob out shouldn't break it. The door lock knob has a pretty short post sticking up from the top that acts like a hinge and it seats into a hole in the handle assembly. When you pry up, you are lifting the assembly with the hole over the small knob and, the knob is so short you shouldn't damage anything before it pops out.

I hope this helps someone and, overall, this thread is what helped me locate my issue so: Thanks to all that have posted here so far!

EDIT: All these words are in regard to a 2022 Tacoma Double Cab.

I had a similar situation with installing a rear door speaker upgrade. I tested it initially but somehow the door latch cable became unseated & the rear door was locked on both sides. After days of frustration & research on here I discovered this thread. I was just about to give up & take it to the dealer for repair. I tried the pull door handle past its stop point method & it worked! The door opened & I was able to get the cable properly seated again.
So, THANK YOU all for sharing your experience!
    I am very grateful!
