Yup... especially since it's slightly wider than the 1st Gen, so it's harder to reach across to the passenger door to unlock it since I still haven't installed my power locks.

All I need to do is catch my pinky in the door handle and I can pop the door for SWMBO.

Only thing is the rear doors do not. Which is ok since I like to keep my kids in the truck.

    LOL!

Surprised the hell out of me too.
I'd always manually unlocked mine before opening, discovered it quite by accident.

Checked my wife's '04 Rav4 today and it doesn't unlock.

I posted in the !st gen area for a reason LOL. I would have bought a 2nd gen if I wanted too, I don't like new technology and always wanted a 01-04. There is a way to make the doors operate the way I want them too. Quick stop to the junk yard and I will make them work and a DIY HOW-TO when I finish it.

How similar is the 1st Gen handle to the 2nd Gen?
The self-unlock is likely contained in the handle itself. If it is reasonably close, maybe the 2nd Gen handles can be connected to the 1st Gen cables and molded into the door panel.
