I've got a 98 ext cab tacoma and factory manual windows and locks.

Is my truck already wired from factory to accept doors with power windows and locks?

Also do front doors from a 3rd gen 4runner fit 1st gen tacomas or are they different?

I've always hated manual windows, and recently fawkd my drivers door up so i'm looking to upgrade while i'm at it.

i would really like to hear some more info on this, i have the same setup as you and was wondering the same thing. you physically tried putting a 3rd gen 4runner door on your truck and it didn't fit? what about just swapping the 4runner regulator/tracks/locks/actuators/interior doorpanel, etc onto the taco door?

i am assuming our trucks aren't pre-wired for power windows/locks but could be wrong. i keep an eye on my local junkyards inventory and there is never tacomas in there... no shortage of 4runners though... also if anyone is ever parting out a taco the parts get picked up ridiculously fast. if there is a quality aftermarket conversion kit or bolt-in parts from another model toyota i would love to know

The door on the 3rd gen is completely different so it wont fit. I didnt physically try it, just talked to a friend who has owned several 4runners and tacomas and he confirmed.

I'm sure the manual window track and electric are both different. I know a lot of cars are already wired for electric windows when they come with manual but i'm not sure how the tacoma is, If i get time this weekend i'll take my door and what not apart and see.

I'll probably not worry about the electric window deal actually, i've been wanting to sell the truck for awhile now and once i replace the door i'm going to go ahead and do it. It's to small for my needs now and i've outgrown it.

From my experience as a glass installer I would say both electric and crank doors are stamped the same. Wouldn't know why they would change. All it is is a stamped motor mount location.
The track and scissors are most likely the same. Probably has the motor mount holes alreaddy stamped.
I would think all that was missing was the wiring to power the motor...if its not already there in the kick panel.

i have a 97 manual everything. There are no wires behind the door or inside the cab frame to make wiring a plug n play kind of deal.
