I used a long piece of Velcro (soft side) on the door where it meets the rubber on the door frame.

I found the idea on a BMW fourm.

I have done to two Tacomas, no more noise.

My noise issue solely related to the inner window seal and when you push the seal out towards the window as it's making the annoying noise, it becomes silent. It has nothing to do with the paint or the outer seal. How do you here a noise coming from the outer seal that's not coming from inside your cab?
The service rep called me and told me, my truck is ready to be picked up, so I will update you guys on this. I will be surprised if it's repaired, but lets hope so. Elmore Toyota in Westminster/ Midway City is where I took my truck.

I know the exact noise the window runner seal is making because I faught this for quite awhile thinking this was the culprit. I had them replace my seals 2 times. This didn't work. It was infact the door seals not mating up with the paint like real rubber does. Put some baby powder on your door seals and see if it goes away.

I bet the dealer just sprays sylicone lube on the seals and calls it fixed.

    Let me know your results.

I'm ready to try some velcro or possibly some adhesive backed felt I have.

I just removed all of the drip line tubing from my door seals today. Not only did it not totally solve the problem, I'm convinced it actually made the wind noise in the truck louder.

My theory is that the drip line has gotten much stiffer now that the weather has turned cold, causing more issues. Either that, or it's all in my head, which is entirely possible.

I got my truck back today and the noise is gone, for now. I asked the rep and he told me there is no TSB as of now. This is a newer issue that Tacoma owners have started complaining about, so I was lucky that Toyota acted and didn't give me the typical dealer run around.

The correction listed on the invoice reads, refit mouldings and window runs per Tas.

Hey all - I've seen a ton of discussion on this, but there seems to be some general confusion on exactly where the noise comes from. Mine needs to be re-done, so I'll video it this weekend and post it in a new post.

For anyone new to the thread:

What is isn't: It is almost always NOT the weather seal on the door rubbing against the door jam. This has been the case in VERY few, and it's a slightly different sound.

What is IS: It is the window weather stripping on the inside of the door where the window rolls up into. When the window is up, it pushes the rubber weatherstrip into the metal on the inside of the door itself, and creates the sound.

Here's how to test it: With the window UP, push outward against the glass at the very top corner. You will hear a similar noise. That's your problem.

The FIX: Roll down the window down. Carefully pull the weather seal out of the door channel. Lube the 6" or so across the top from the corner, and down the side from the corner. You can do this quickly with some silicone lube, but note that it only lasts a few weeks and the sound will come back as soon as the silicone dries up. 303 Vacuum grease is EXTREMELY thick and waterproof, and will be a nearly permanent fix.

Final note: Rubber weather stripping is not intended to have petroleum based lubes on it, as it degrades the rubber over time. If you want to use that kind of lube, go ahead, but note that it could have an ill effect years down the road. Also, note that when you wash your car, or when it rains, you will see a film coming out of the window weather strip and running down the paint.

Thick wall 1/4" plastic tubing, about 30' to do all the seals on the doors, no more noise

    Hey Large,

Can you elaborate a little what you do with that tubing? Maybe some photos or a step by step?

    Thanks

    Tgoatman,

Would it make sense to permanently adhere the window glass seal/channel to the door channel as opposed to using a lubricant? I have tried most of the door seal related suggested tips without luck. Noise continues. Thanks.

It's not the window runner, It's the seal next to it. I know when you push on the window runner it looks as it makes the noise. But it's not, it's the door seal that is the culprit. When the window is shut the seal is tight and these synthetic seals don't play well with paint.

It's the door that flexes with the body when driving not the window in the door.

I literally cut the door seals with a pocket knife enough to slip the tubing in. I made 2 cuts per door, one going lateral and one going up and down. Shove the tubing in as far as you can both ways, repeat for the rest of the doors.
