On my 2012 DC I found that the little 'bumps' on the bottom edge of the plastic Door Scuff Plates had worn through the paint of my door sills down to the metal. Even started getting some rust on one of the spots. I first found it on the driver side, which was worn the worst, then check and found wear at all 4 doors.

Took it to the dealership, they gave me a hard time at first about it. They ended up taking some pics and going to send it off to the Regional Manager to get Approval to fix my door sills under factory defect in the factory warranty.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do to resolve this? They mentioned about putting some foam tape under the edge after it's been fixed. Just wanted to get some feed back.

Full OME lift 885's with Dakar leaf springs. LR UCA's. ImMrYo relocation bracket.
They make sill covers. OEM Toyota ones and I believe there is a vendor here on TW that makes and sells custom ones.

Door sill protectors won't save you from that like suggested above. If it was me is grind those nubs flush and if dealer doesn't make headway definitely touch up those spots

Yea, I bought some sill covers from G Tek Fab. I was about to install them when I saw this, but this is directly under the door scuff plate, after where the sill covers ends.

The ones being sold here don't replace the plastic sill covers that cover the wiring harness and door threshold, they cover from the plastic out to edge of rocker where the door closes up to. Can't believe Toyota even entertained addressing this.

I don't see why Toyota wouldn't address this. It's the factory door scuff plate that has worn through the paint down to the metal and allowing moisture to cause rust on a truck that is barely 2 years old and less than 20k miles.

Uhhhhh, because they haven't addressed a host of other things over the years that are much bigger issues than a door sill wearing off some paint? Who steps on that thing to even wear holes in the paint anyway? I don't know about other people but mine never see a shoe, feet go onto weathertechs getting in and on the ground getting out and that is with lifted truck too. The suggestion in the post above makes a hell of of lot more sense to me than trying to get Toyota involved in this one but good luck with getting them to do anything other than smirk or laugh and figuring out how to get in and out without causing this to begin with.

    ^^X2.

I haven't never stepped on those plates. They get scuffs on them but never stepped on directly.

I hate to bump an old thread like this, but did Toyota ever fix this for you?

I was just washing my 2014 and noticed a few small rust bubbles and pulled the scuff plate off to find the same thing. Just wondering if its worth my time to take it back to the dealership or just fix it myself.

I'd touch it up, grind off the nubs that are contacting the paint and as extra precaution, place some 3-M chip guard under that area. Over the years a roll of 3-M chip guard has become one of my best frineds for so many applications on my truck and my bike.
