Hey everyone! Just purchased my first Tacoma. I went with a 2017 TRD Off-Road in Quicksand. It had one previous owner and I noticed that there’s a lot of wear on the door sill, and wanted to know if this was normal. I already ordered the OEM paint and door sill protector. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Haven't noticed any wear on mine anywhere, but I have only 16k miles.

EDIT: dang, added pics before I got my post out.

The protectors are a great idea as they will prevent most scuffs

Have not had that type of damage yet but only 7000 miles in. It looks like previous owner didn't care about being careful getting or out. Some type of cleats maybe on shoes/boots.

Agreed above - carelessness, especially with the steps installed; why the sills were used too is a mystery, as stock Tacomas are not excessively lifted (unless the previous owner was like 4'11"). Looks like the sills have eroded to the point of bare metal in spots. (Edit) Glad to see paint was ordered! Would have risked early rust otherwise.

Jeez. That looks the previous owner was using the sill to scrape mud off his boots.

If the previous owner didn’t bother to put a protector there, I wonder if they bothered to change the oil.

That's exactly what he was doing, seen it many times before. You know to some people, a truck is FOR that kind of thing. laughs.

Wow you guys are quick here. I bought it from the dealer and he actually worked there. Small dude, cowboyish, so I could see how boots would mess up the finish. I’m not one to baby my vehicles but cmon! Here she is. Lots of upgrades to come

I thought about taking it to the dealership, but I have all the supplies to cover it up now and the trip there is a LONG one

I would hit up @G Tek Fab he makes some kick ass aluminum protectors that last. I have had them for several years. Hands down best you can get and reasonable.

Wow the PO must have been trying to do that damage, that's careless. I can't believe the rest of the truck is in as good as shape as it is. Touch up and door sill protectors.

Almost looks like the bottom of the door edge was rubbing. Any damage to that area on the door itself?

I put my right foot there when I get out and my door sill protectors look like that now. I do not care that the protectors are worn as they are there for that and aluminum. It happens OP, make sure you sand and paint that area before you apply the new protectors but measure and tape before you do to make sure it is covered by the new protector. That way you will prevent future rust and will not even know it it there.

Or perhaps he is short like me (5'8") and just puts his right foot there and drags it or kicks off when he gets out. I care a great deal for my truck but bought something that is made to take the abuse.
