I think I've seen a thread on this before, but I can't find it and don't recall the content.

In every other vehicle I've owned there have been at least one door "stop" between fully open and fully closed. I could open the door in a parking lot far enough to get out, but not so far as having the door swing fully open into the door of the car next to me, and it would stay there at that mid point.

My Tacoma doesn't do that. It has two stable positions - all the way open, and shut.

Is this how it was built, or has something worn out that I can fix?

    Thanks,

    Matt

Let me change the question, then. Do *your* doors have a place between completely open and completely shut where they will stay without you holding them?

I have seen many instances as well as results in my own cars from the wind catching the doors and ripping them into another. I hold onto my door as best I can when entering and exiting from my truck.

its just the way the hinges are made, they don't have that "half open" spot to stop at.

different yes but nothing I ever found as useful since I hold the door anyway when im parked that close

I find myself having trouble with it routinely. I get in/out of the truck with hands full of things to transfer in/out of the truck. That sometimes takes both hands, requiring the use of my mythical third hand to hold the door.

    Thanks for the replies, though.
