Waiting for my door weatherstripping to arrive today. I know I have to remove the sill and plastic cover near the floor, but do I have to remove the panel where the seat belt goes or would I be able to fit it in?

    Thank you

Also, no need for a rubber mallet or just hand press?

the OEM weatherstrip comes pre-filled with dumdum (soft rubber-like glue), so you will just need to press it firmly in it's place to make sure it fits tight and snug around the door opening. Install it in short sections at a time. Tapping on it with your fist should be enough.

Where did you find the door weather stripping?

You can get a roll of weatherstrip on Amazon or ebay. You have to look for automotive weatherstripping. There's plenty of shapes and sizes, so be careful to pick the right one for your needs

Toyota OEM comes with dumdum glue while aftermarket does not (it's possible to buy dumdum separately if you want to put some in as an extra protection against leaks)

Two years ago I replaced the driver-side door weatherstripping on my 2003 as part of a complete interior change (with my 2001). The OEM seal I got didn't have any dumdum that I noticed, @onakat, and I had parts of it off several times with no indication their was any adhesive at all. It fits in place pretty securely without any dumdum.

It's an easy-peasy change, @vettehigh. You'll see where it seats against the b-pillar trim.

Those weatherstrips have a metal carrier inside. It looks like a row of staples. The best way to install them is to press and smooth with one hand, while holding the loose end of the weatherstrip at a 90 degree angle to the door flange. It spreads those "staples" and lets the weatherstrip go on more easily.

Usually these start in the upper rear corner, and go both directions (across the top, and down the rear) and the joint is somewhere in the front bottom section, under the scuff plate. But, some start in the front, top corner. Sorry, I don't know for sure on your truck.

There should be a paint dot on the weatherstrip, about in the center, to show you where to start in that upper rear corner of the door opening. On the body, there may be a bump or notch to match up with the dot.

Sounds complicated but it's not. Look for a dot around the middle of the W/S. Find a bump or notch near the upper rear (or possibly front) corner. Install in both directions, holding extra length at right angle while you press and smooth. Hopefully the ends meet as marked.

Sometimes, if you pull too hard while installing, you'll have "extra" length. Pull some loose and try smoothing, massaging in the opposite direction to use up the extra. DO NOT CUT OFF. It will contract and pull loose later if you do.

These are generalizations, but most are the same procedure.
