I have an 01 sr5 Tacoma. When I turn the key, the doors both automatically lock. When I turn the car off, they unlock. Is there any way to disable this?

yes. let me find the write-up...

    http://www.parksoffroad.com/tacomamods/alarminfo/alarminfo.htm#autodoorunlocklock

    copy/pasted here for reference:

Automatic Door Locking / Unlocking Function:

The factory setting for the automatic door locking and unlocking function is on.

1: Sit in the drivers seat with the drivers door open.

2: Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to on (not acc) 5 times (on-lock, on-lock, on-lock, on-lock, on) within a 10 second period. The status monitors LED turns on, and the piezo chirper sounds once.
***You must perform the next steps within 30 seconds***
    Select the operating mode:

Close the drivers door once, then open and close it one more time. Turn the ignition switch to the lock position. The piezo chirper sounds twice, and the exterior lights flash twice. No more auto locks!

If you do not turn the ignition key to lock, or exceed 30 seconds during the programming steps, the status monitor's LED will turn off and the previous operation mode will remain.

Wow, Thanks! that is some tacoma coding right there. I had never heard of any commands like that. Are there other secret functions you can control by using the key, doors, etc?

Haha I know! The first time I read and did that process I thought I was gonna end up on America's funniest videos or something.

I'm sure there are other little hidden gems but I have no clue how one would go about discovering them... Without looking like the weirdest neighbor in the world..

i'd look into the toyota telestream program -- it allows the toyota technician to hook up to your vehicle and change settings via software. i had to do that to get the seatbelt chime disabled on my old 2007 tundra. you may have to talk to your dealer.

Thanks for posting the info David. It's one of those little deals in life that got in the way too much. Glad I don't have to deal with it now:)

I hear ya Frank! It was driving me out of my mind when I first got my truck. Sometimes it's the littlest things that make the biggest difference in satisfaction. Glad it worked for you!

When I originally posted this I never actually got this function to work correctly. Any ideas why that might be? How do I know if I have that Vehicle intrusion protection (VIP)? I dont think I do. The doors automatically lock when I start the ignition, and I cant figure out how to turn it off.
