I had an issue yesterday where I wasn't able to lock my truck using the fob or key. I found the 20 amp fuse was bown. Changed it and things seemed to be fine. I get home from work tonight and I can't unlock the doors. The key will not turn either direction and the fob does nothing. Any ideas how I can get a door opened so I can get it checked out? I gave an 06 2DR PreRunner

A fuse blows because of a problem. You have a ground fault or a short in the circuit. Replacing the fuse not a fix.

Can you check the fuse to see if it is open again? If it is you probably have a bad part in that circuit.

It was the 20 amp door lock fuse behind the tray in the dash.

I can't troubleshoot the fuse or anything due to being locked out of my truck. Nothing is working to unlock either door.

krikey, so there is a short somewhere in the circuit that handles the door locks.
Option A: Call a tow truck (or AAA if you have it), have them come out and get into the truck, they will wedge the door and trigger it open. Then roll down the window, start dissembling the locks on each of the doors one by one till you find the one causing the short, maybe a faulty actuator, pinched wire, who knows. Take each one of the door locks off the circuit one by one with a bunch of extra 20A fuses till you track down the problem.

Option B: Call a tow truck (or AAA), get into the truck, roll the window down, replace the fuse, drive it to a dealership and pay hundreds of dollars for them to do Option A for you.

I think the key (pun not intended) here is that not only will the remote not work, but the physical key itself will not turn. Have you tried both doors? (I am guessing the passenger's door has a key lock as well) It sounds like something may be frozen in the door lock. Even if the power locks were shorted out, the key SHOULD still work the lock cylinder. So SOMETHING inside is jammed, possibly shorting out the power locks.

that's what I was wondering, if the fuse was blown, would the key turn or not?

Just wanted to post that identical scenario just happened. Key fob just stopped working while running an errand. Key did not want to unlock the door either. Now, in the 4 years I've had my 07, I've never actually tried using the key to open the lock -- always used the key fob.

My solution was calling my wife and having her bring the other key, which opened the truck. I was expecting the truck not to start, but it ran just fine. I also tried replacing the fob battery, but it still didn't work.

Dealer charged me $3 for a spare key that will only open the doors, so at least I have something that works until I figure out how to buy a new fob, key, and program them myself, or pay $100 for a new fob, $100 for programming, $40 for a new key, and $100 for new key programming.

Wiggle the key a bit. As they get worn, they don't fully engage. My key does the same every now and then (driver door PDL is shot but the rest work).
