Hello -- can anybody with the 2014 "Entune Premium" system describe the Doppler Weather Overlay feature?

Does it rely on a satellite connection (as part of the Sirius/XM capability), or is it data carried over 'HD' radio waves on the ground?

Does it require any sort of 'data plan' or subscription to function, or does it just work 'out of the box'?

I did find this page: http://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...r-Channel’s-Total-Traffic-Network-Toyota-Team
Seems like Toyota struck a deal with Clear Channel to provide traffic/weather but it might expire in/around 2016?

    Thanks.

I know in my 2013 all the programs minus maps goes though my smartphone and uses the entune app. I thought it would be cool at first but i found it more of a pain in the butt, cause you have to have the phone plugged into the usb. Be careful on your data i have unlimited so it didn't really matter for me. Just my findings.

Yeah I know that 'apps' such as Pandora are pass-through to your phone, but am confident that the traffic/weather are supported independently without the need for a phone with data signal. If it is HD Radio pushing the traffic/weather data, then you can still loose the signal far out enough. Would be nice to get weather info via satellite for reliable coverage.

My 2014 does not have to be hardwired for the weather to work; only within HD radio range. It does not have a loop though, only current radar.
