    Ummm...
access cab and double cab short bed are exactly the same length.

Depends what you can afford and what you want. I need long bed since my taco is my work truck and couldn't afford double cab long bed nor do I want to drive a bus. Also I couldn't afford 4x4 but wanted at least TRD off road package, because I wanted the locker... DCLB doesn't come with TRD off road package. So AC prerunner with TRD OR package was a compromise. Yes there is not much room in the back, perfect if 95% of the time its only you or one more passenger driving in the truck. I have all my tools in the area where the jumper seats are in the AC cab.

You CAN fit TWO adults and TWO kids in the AC, it wont be comfortable for more than hour or two, BUT it CAN be done. My kid is still in the car seat and the car seat fits in the back and my wife still has decent amount of room in the front...

The ideal setup for me would be DCLB 4x4 with TRD OR package, but that doesn't exist

I personally like the access cab because of the 6' bed instead of 5' bed with 4 door model. Of course our kids are grown and don't need that much room behind the front seats,
