anyone buy a double cab "in case" they needed the extra room and regret it?

I don't "need" a double cab and prefer the looks of the xtra cab (and longer bed) but I can see that it would be nice to have a DC at certain times. Does it make sense to consider a DC if there's no immediate need for it? No kids, but I do have two German shepherds...

Double cab is much better for dogs. That's pretty much why I got it. And you can get the 6' bed with either the access or double cab.

On the flip side, if you're into off roading the double cab long bed is ridiculously long- The 3rd gen DCLB is an inch longer than a Suburban. Even parking at the grocery store can be a challenge.

I almost ordered a double cab. Went with access cab because I'm rarely carrying passengers, and if I do, there's almost never more than one. Plus I want the long bed without having a crazy long truck. Plus access cab is cheaper :p

Access cab (I don't ride in the back) plus it was 7K less then the double cab.

The only thing I did not like about the Access Cab are the reverse opening doors. My back seats are always down. When I have a Costco Cart I can just open the rear door ans load. On the Access Cab the door opens backward so one has to pass the small open Open Both doors and load their stuff.

I bought an AC because they look better and I don't want to drive friends around in my truck. I own an Acura so why take the truck out to dinner? The only advantage I see is for BIG dogs it's better. I have small dogs now and I built a platform or "deck" for them and they love it!

Off topic, but funny none the less. Our sales man was a young 6'4" noob to the sales team. The first day we test drove there were no double cabs on the lot and only 1 V6 AC so we took it for a spin. He was insistent he could fit in the back so I let him try to stuff himself in there. Excited and not thinking I go to close the drivers side door thinking all is good and I slam the door right into his knee. I instantly felt the pain he was experiencing by looking at his face. He was like, "no problem, but I don't think I can't fit back here". I asked him if he wanted me to call an ambulance and he laughed it off, but I've never felt so bad. I knew the dude was in wretched pain the entire test drive. It was definitely awkward. The following day when we took delivery on our truck he had called in sick and probably with his orthopedic surgeon. I insisted that he take full credit for our sale or I was walking and they assured me he would be credited for it.

These sales guys are in the trenches and dealing with dipshits like me that have no clue on knowing when to close an AC door. With that, I don't regret a single second going with a double cab. DCSBFTMFW!!

I had the extended cab 2003 for a long time. It was fine in my 20's. It actually gave me a good excuse to not have to drive people around. Now that I'm about to get married and in my 30's it was time to step up to the DCSB. SB looks better to me; easier to park/store in garage and anything I can fit in the LB will fit in the SB as far as I'm concerned.
