Great idea man! I'm planning my own expedition style type trips and was wondering about my sleep arrangements. I've considered the tent in the box idea or maybe buying a cap later on down the road, but sleeping in the cab just might work. Thanks!

Great job man. I have 2 big labs and am always concerned about them scratching the hell out of everything back there. you should make a few more "kits" like this and sell em on here with the platform and film. I would easily pay $75 or more!!! HAha just an idea.

    In progress...
Thanks to this necrothread, I built a similar platform yesterday for my new DC.

Used 1/2" MDF. Bottom piece is 52x22. Back piece is 52x19. Connected the two halves with the door hinges. Cut slots for the seatback D-ring things and relieved a hole for the bumper on the passenger side. Attached grey outdoor carpet from Lowes with 3M spray glue and a staple gun. It's fairly secure with a friction fit, but I'll probably find something to wedge in the protruding D-ring things to keep the back secured down.

 Good stuff! I cut my slots just wide enough so that they fit extremely tight on those protruding d-rings. Then for extra security i put a pad lock on there.

    Cactuscorn........

Thought about going with padding under the carpet but we usually get lots of snow, rain and other increment weather so i'm worried that the foam would get soaked and wouldn't dry easily....

Anyone know if the plastic can be separated from the back seats? I was thinking that a nice permanent and smooth solution would be to remove them and cover them up in carpet similar to what is used on speaker boxes. Not to take away from the original post as that IS a great looking job!!

i hear ya. i wouldnt do it on the back seat dog platform as theres no real need. was thinkin id just toss their doggy beds on it durring road trips for now. the padding i was talkin about would be on my bed platform ill eventually stick in back once i commit to a cap. $ is rather tight right now.

ehays: sometimes its too cold/hot/windy in the bed. could you imagine sittin back there on a 8 hour 80 mph drive through the az desert in summer or even a quick speed run to the store in the midwest in february? that would suck. im not sayin id run this full time, just when nessesary.

My dogs do go in the box during the summer, but on the highway they stay in the cab.

Is there something wrong with people taking their dogs with them? My 2 go with me everywhere but I don't see why you would give a shit? No one's bothering you...

Looks great! I might do something like this if I can make one that will stay in even when the seats are up. Maybe use a thinner board or recess it further into the storage compartment? :notsure: I really like the idea though, nice work!

Exactly, they're dogs, if it weren't for the airbag (or the girlfriend) my guy would be shotgun. Next best thing is the rear seat. Right now I've got waterproof neoprene covers back there for him. You keep on putting your dog in the bed, I'll keep mine in the cab.

If you get caught with your dogs in the bed of your truck in Omaha its a traffic ticket, which is a great idea Dogs ride in the cab!
