I am looking to pull the trigger on a double cab taco or a tundra double cab. If I order the taco it will be the TRD PRO, the Tundra and SR5 TRD off road. My debate is will the tacoma have enough room in the back for my one kid now, but one more in the future. I am 5'6 and my kid is almost as tall....honest opinions please and thanks!

The rear seat of the Tundra crewmax has more leg room than the front...Tundra..

    I've owned both a DC Tacoma (06, 13), a 2011 DC tundra & a full 4 door crew tundra (2004).
I've carried adults & teenagers in all of them.
The Tundras hands down is more roomier & comfortable, not harsh. My biggest problem with them was fitting them in my garage, small trailheads for hiking & remote camping. Some ATMs were tricky & parking lots. That is my experience.
The DC Tacoma fit my lifestyle better is why I always sold the tundras.

I'm 6'1" and have had people just as tall ride in the back with any issues. It's certainly not as roomy as the Tundra though.

Seems like a silly thing to ask online though. The only way to make this decision is to go look at them in person.

Im 6'1 and i fit myself and my family of 5 in my Taco. We are snug, but comfy. I also regularly carry full sized adults in the rear seats with no issues. If I could go back i would still buy the tacoma over the Tundra

You know it is actually a good question. I went to the dealership and sat in the rear specifically to see how the space difference was and at the time I could barely notice a difference. Could have been where the front seat was and also wasnt a crewmax tundra.

Now that I have owned my tacoma for a while it is a bit small in the back for taller people. If you use your truck for long trips I would suggest a tundra. Some models the rear seats will decline and the added room is beneficial. The larger truck sucks when you live in a city that only has small ass parking spaces but it is definitely nicer as a travel truck.

Day to day driving and less than 2-3 hour trips a tacoma will be fine.

If passenger room is the main concern, then obviously the Tundra is the way to go. I've loaded my Taco with 4 people and 3 dogs in the cab and loaded the bed with camping/fly-fishing gear and no-one was super cramped.

By no means will you feel like sardines in the Taco. Unless, of course, you load it with 5 six foot tall dudes at 290 lbs each. But if that is the goal, then a UPS truck might be more your style.

I'm 6'2 and my wife is 5'10 and we have 2 ~50lb dogs. DCLB Taco was pretty cramped for us, especially on road trips, and with a kid about to happen we couldn't really picture staying with it.

I just upped to a crewmax tundra yesterday. It's a bit harder to park but well worth the space and comfort increase.

appreciate the feedback guys! I sat in a tacoma briefly at the autoshow and it seemed fine for me...but we are talking 20 seconds...I am just afraid to get the bigger tundra mostly because i dont need the capability it provides and the MPG. Obviously I am not buying a truck for mpg, but when i had my TITAN i got 14.6 and when I used to own a Ranger that got 20mpg I definitely seen the the difference in the pump. I also thought it was easier to clean, park, and drive with the smaller truck. Are car seats a pain in the ass in the Tacoma Double Cab?

I will be going to dealer tomorrow

Did you take the dogs with you on trips?

I have an Access cab and trust me, the Double Cab will be just fine. I'm 6'1" and it's not bad at all for adults in the back of a DC. Unless you're carrying around weird shaped objects or passengers (dogs) then the seats accommodate people just fine.

I see the difference as being comfortable versus being more comfortable. When I bought my DC a year ago I had my two twelve year old, 5'7" sons sit in the back while I and the salesman rode in the front. I asked my sons after the test drive how they felt in the back and they said fine. I bought the truck. No regrets since.

I'm 6', 210 lbs. When I'm driving, I have the seat all the way back, so anyone behind me would need skinny legs. Normally it's 2 of us in front with the dog in the back seats.
Did a 3+ hour drive with 2 other guys about the same height but skinnier. Once we played with their locations and the passenger seat they were reasonably comfortable, but legroom was tight.

    Tight but acceptable right?

I think there's this misconception that not able to straighten your leg out like you can in the front of a 2500 truck is 'tight'. After driving an access cab I can tell you that the back of mine is also tight, but acceptable. I can fit full 4 grown adults in a very uncomfortable way, but it can be done and would work for most short trips of less than 3 hours. This is why I'm sticking with my claim that the double cab really is just about a perfect compromise between being too big and too tight
