A little of this and a little of that.
I have a ‘11 DCSB, and would replace it with an AC in a minute. I also own a regular cab that my daughter drives. My kids are grown, so I don’t need the room anymore. As long as I can still get a manual transmission, the AC cab would be my next truck. I wish Toyota would bring back the regular cab and put the V6 in it. :D

I have a leer camper shell on, so I cant stand gear upright nor really fit in much stuff more than a bike diagonally and a few bins. I have explored camping options with the tailgate down, like this (https://topperezlift.com/index.php/product/the-nomad-camper-package/) but its never felt right. Plus, much easier to stealth camp with something that is fully closed. I can make a sleeping platform and slide things underneath like skis and camping stoves/bins. cant do that with a short bed and the tailgate down..

I know interior space is valuable to some! just not as much to me as the length in the bed. I thought i would be driving people around more than i do-- maybe twice over three years ive had someone in the back.. and we couldve easily just taken a different vehicle.. The DCSB is segmented into two - just quite too short - compartments. The cab isnt too comfortable for anyone for the long term, and the bed is just too short..

great points. if i needed to take more than 1 passenger, AC's can do it in a pinch. If not, thats a great excuse to take someones elses truck.. this truck is for me and if i need the space down the line, ill be going full size anyways.

Have a DCLB. No way i could give up the back seat or the 6' bed. I keep a bunch of stuff easily in the back seat, and can put adults back there no problem. Have gone for many trips with 4 adults in the truck. Is it as big as a full size, or big SUV? No, but none of my friends have those either. They have cars or medium suvs so the truck is great in comparison.

No kids and I have an access cab and love it. I took out the small rear seats on the second day I had the truck and use the space for storage. I have a cap and sleep in the back on vacation -I wish the bed was a few inches longer.

As far as single cab production, no one bought them when they did make them.

I got an AC as the kids are grown too. Then found someone that had the rear seat delete but later wanted rear seats so we swapped the rear area stuff. Great for the extra room inside.

So look for an AC with the rear seat delete option for that extra bit of space.

The only thing i'd change on my AC is i wish the back doors opened farther...you have to do a bit of a dance to get stuff back there
if someone is parked close to it...I usually just park a little to the right in the parking spot to give me a little more room to maneuver between the doors if
i am loading something back there driver side.

sure, dclb are great too, i drive a couple for my work and but just dont love the length but you are right, for most things it doesnt matter. A modest lift and tires makes the offroading angles neglible for me, mostly fire roads.

My thinking rn is that when i need all the space, itll be time for a full size truck anyways.

DCLB is a great option, true. I like the wheelbase of the AC or short bed trucks tho. If i am expecting a family soon or need the space, itll be time for a full size anyways. Ive so rarely driven any more than 1 passenger so im not prepping for a loaded trips. Following my line of thinking back when i bought this truck (thinking i needed four doors) i wouldve gotten a DCLB if it was offered in the TRDOR, but alas.

How much longer is the wheelbase on the truck you want compared to a DCLB. I'm thinking not as much as you think.

just over a foot i believe. i may be exaggerating the difference, but i drive dclb's for work and they just are simply different. "limo-like" some people say but i may disagree

I have kids (3) and a double cab currently. When I got the truck, I got a double cab for that reason (they all fit fairly well). That being said, if we actually plan any kind of trip, we take my wife's SUV. If I could go back in time, I think I would get the sport AC instead of the OR DC (since I could have still gotten the manual in that configuration). Not worth the financial hit to me to make the change at this point, but I wouldn't miss the back seats at all if I did otherwise.

ya im thinking the same. I dont have kids or passengers now, and even when i do, we can take another car or ill be looking for a fullsize anyways.. i want a taco now to fit what I need it for, not what others need it for, and for me now, its a 6ft bed..

I have an AC, my dad has a DCSB. I love mine, sometimes I wish I had the DC but the 6ft bed is too important and I'm not sure if there was a DCLB with a stick, and if there is they're super rare.

Between my gf, our 3 month old, and I we can reasonably comfortably all fit. Helps that shes 5'2 so front legroom isn't really an issue anyways and the little one seems to like riding in the truck more than her car.

following up, i sold the 2014 DCSB and bought a 2013 MGM TRD OR AC with a few thousand less miles (60k at the time), upgraded bilstein suspension and OME leaf pack, rock sliders, hidden light bar in the grill.. even made a few thousand on the trade.. thanks double cab enthusiasts! that cash is going to a campershell i want to replace the the softopper it came with eventually. except i'm starting to like the soft topper now.. owning it 6 months i havent wanted the back row once, but a friend or two of mine may have :). thanks for the advice all! couldnt be more happy with the switch

I am sort of in the opposite boat as you. I have a 2014 AC and wish I bought a DCSB. I also do not want the LB but having additional secure/dry storage and more room for people would be so much better. The AC is fine for now and I actually like the way they look better (subjective) but they just aren't as practical. Again, I don't have a SB but I can't imagine 1ft less of bed space being that big of a deal. Is it really?? Honest question.
