Ok guys I wanted to see what fellow 1st gen owners prefer the double cabs or ext cabs. I know a lot of you on here have double cabs because you need more room for your families but if you didn't need the 4 doors would you have got a ext cab? The things I like about the ext cab is you can get them in a manual, have a decent size bed, and seem to have more power because they weight less. The reason I post this because one of my family members is having a hard time deciding to get a double cab or ext cab. He has no kids and doesn't plan on having any so I told him he should just get an ext cab. Curious to see what you guys prefer.

My 06 was an extended cab and my now 01 is an extended cab. 4 doors would be nice, but I just do not like the way they look. Do not seem proportional looking. I rarely carry more than 1 adult for a passenger, so the extended cab works just fine for my 9 year old daughter and dog.

The rare few times an adult needs to sit back there, it has not been much of an issue. Not very comfy, but it works.

If I didn't have kids the extra cab would be perfect for me, but I have kids and wish I had a double cab. Will eventually give it to my son and will then get a double cab.

Personally I would get a double cab for when the space is needed.

I told him after having 3 ext cabs and 1 double cab, I prefer the ext cab because it has a bigger bed and you can get it in a manual

I spent 3 years looking for a nice ext cab. Ran across a sweet double cab and after looking at it closely decided this would be better for me. I like to have a safe place to keep things. If I'm out shopping I can lock stuff up and go to the next store. I don't mind the short bed as I just need it for hauling small amounts of dirt and mulch for the house, maybe a shrub or two. Mostly though my dog likes the extra space when my wife and I go somewhere.

    Bone stock. For now.
I just sold my X Cab when I found my super sweet ass 4x4 DC. I absolutely love having the four doors and extra cab space. That being said, I don't use my bed as much as a lot of guys do. So it comes down to personal preference.

I have a double cab. A wife and 4 dogs... More cab room.

But I hate the short bed... If it were me I would just gotten an extended cab with the longer bed.

For me extra cab works best. I bought my taco to mod and off road. So I did not need the extra space. Also I ripped out the jump seats and factory storage and made my own.

...with three grand kids I need the full back seat and 4 doors. I've also got the long bed, and this gives me even more room.

This is my second 4 door long bed, the first being the 2011 that I sold (gave) to my son after driving it from Chicago to Fairbanks, Alaska. Now I've got a 2013 and couldn't be happier- tight, quiet, and the new radio system is really cool.

I would appreciate a real back seat, but I can't imagine trying to fit all my camping gear into a short bed box.

If I didn't have kids, I would have gotten the xtra cab solely for the manual transmission.

Extended cab all day! I HAVE to have a toolbox on my truck and that just would not work with a short bed.

I would enjoy being able to give rides to more than 3 people in the cab (but I did manage to fit 7 sorority girls in the cab the other day :D)

My first 2 cars were regular cabs 1 a 1999 taco and the other 2005 taco. Trust me anything less then 2 full door you end up wishing you had more.

I have a double cab with a topper, and I like the setup. My ex had a daughter, so, you know how that worked out. Bed space isn't a huge concern for me, as I have a trailer I use to haul around stuff that doesn't fit in the bed. And I actually do end up hauling more than two people in my truck so I do enjoy the extra cabin seating/doors.

Frankly, I'm too old and lazy to have a manual tranny in my daily also. :D

Ive owned crew cabs/double cabs and never used the back seats so this time around I got an xtra cab. Longer bed really helps out. It just depends on your personal needs.

I used to work the night shift, and would have to sleep on my lunch break just to get through the night. I can't even remember how many times I've slept in that rear seat. Eventually I had a pillow and a blanket there, but I had to do what I had to do. Also the rear comes in handy when I'm shipping a lot of things and between school and work. I couldn't imagine doing it without the extra doors.
