Pulled the lower intake manifold to replace knock sensors and found this at the back corner of the passenger side head. Is it a leaking head gasket? Wanted to double check before ordering more parts and pulling the heads.
No other symptoms of a failing head gasket. No misfires, lost coolant or oil, or mixing of the two.
    Thanks

Anyone have input on whether this is indicative of an external head gasket leak? It's looking like the answer is yes. Engine is at 210K, which seems early to need a head gasket for a 5VZ. Neither of my previous two at 212k supercharged and 265k N/A ever had an issue. I'll try to get a picture of the back side behind the crossover pipe with a mirror this evening.

Update: Good news is that it's not an external head gasket leak. Just where moisture gets in around the bracket and the foam seal. Seeing the rust initially caused a panic, but closer inspection showed it wasn't coolant or from the head gasket.

While you are in there replace the knock sensor harness... this is a "proximity" repair, you do it because in 3 months when you get knock sensor codes you will scream.

That's the plan. Knock sensors were the reason for digging in here in the first place. Doing those, headers, valve adjustment, and a supercharger rebuild.

That and the coolant temp ECU sensor harness also was ready to fall apart on mine. They're heat resistant but I guess not after 29 years of use.
