Thats probably the best. Plus, instead of waiting in the checkout line, you can say "I'm gonna go pull the car around for you." Now you are a sweet attentive husband/bf versus a guy who cares too much about his ride. And you dont have to wait in line.

OR you can use the whining and complaints as an indicator that you are parking far enough away. The more she complains the better the spot.

I have always parked far away in parking lots, not because of my door ding concern, but because I don’t want to deal with all the people that need to be upfront. Gives me a chance to stretch my legs. My wife used to complain or poke fun at me, but now she even does it.

Doesn’t happen that often....I drive it to work on Fridays and I have a spot that has three addition feet on both sides as the parking stall was painted that way ( gee I wonder who arranged that?! ).

They make a much better small car and door deflector than a step. If you were to get the fill plates and put grip tape up top, it may get both jobs done pretty well.

That single stall between the tow away zones is nice, unless there is a fire, then you are screwed! I also try to watch where there are grassy areas next to the curb. Hard water stains are also a bitch to remove.

Taking two spots is usually an asshole move no matter what. If you want to park in the back, that's fine, but taking two spots there isn't any better.

The only time taking two spots is acceptable is if it's one of those lots with the stupidly small spots that you could barely fit a bike into.

If you park like an asshole, then yes, you're absolutely 100% a big, giant, gaping asshole.

And I'll laugh when you get keyed!

Thanks for all of the help, gentlemen. Especially the list below. I already sorta do this anyway, but it's nice to have it all spelled out.

Also, I'll definitely avoid double parking. It attracts more attention than any risk it it could potentially avoid. I used to think, "There's 5,000 empty parking spots. Who cares if I make it 4,999 or 4,998? As long as I'm at the back of the parking lot where no sane person would park anyway." But it's apparent that enough people care about it in principle - just take up one spot.

Regardless of where you park, if you park like an asshole, you are going to get asshole results. I get the parking far away, but there is no need to still park like an asshole. Typically anyone else that parks away is probably of the same mindset as you that they are looking to avoid the Lysol drinkers so parking within the lines is not putting you at risk.

I used to park my cobra like that. I worked at a high end restaurant years back. Well, one day when I was walking around the back, I see a Ferrari 488 parked in the front row next to a Prius and Camry. For some reason it made me realize at the end of the day it’s a car. If someone who drives a $250k car and can not park like a dick, I don’t need to either. Just my two cents

I have RCI rock sliders, which has helped substantially.

    Excellent perspective. Thank you.

Agreed. I always look for the end spot or near the curb.

Finally! A direct answer to my question! Thank you. I figured it didn't matter since I was in the middle of nowhere, but some people don't like it just out of principle.

    Agreed. Thanks!

    Roger that. Thank you.

The oem tube steps were part of the pkg on my 4 dr 2017 or. I asked the dealer if they could remove them and credit me ,alas they said no. Did not like the look and they did not help me accessing the truck! If anything they were a pain as I’m to tall to use them and they hit my leg getting in and out. I looked under the truck and realized that removing a couple bolts and they were off and in the classified!Buttttt.... As one of the posters here said that people are cows, I parked way in the back of the lot . Low and behold I had a neighbor when I came back to my parked truck with his door open resting on the steps while he was on the phone. I says wtf he says sorry and I’m gone. Thank goodness for the step as as sure as shit his door would of been trading paint with mine. So ugly tube steps you earned your keep! Fear not your staying put!

I wouldn't double park intentionally, even if it is at the back of the lot...there are people that think it justified to mess with other people's cars when the believe they're in the wrong. I wouldn't want to invite that kind of person to mess with my truck. Just park normally in the back of the lot where less people are likely to park next to you.

Figure out how to put a little too much skateboard grip tape on your sliders, so it can eat holes in their careless doors. Maybe carbide inserts?

Around here, NOBODY can make the turn to park to your right in parking lots. My previous old truck took lots of bashes on the back right corner, cracking the brake light assembly.

Need to introduce door ding bandits to the concept of pushback.

I have something to add that a friend of mine told me years ago, try and park, if you absolutely have to, next to small 4 door cars. Their doors are short. And the cars arent very wide. Ever see the door length on a 2 door 70 Chev Monte Carlo?
