Always go for more cab space, you wont regret it. If you are worried about bed length, get a DCLB and be done with it! Best of both worlds, a full bed, full cab, and 4x4 which is everything you need. I came from an access cab, but after having a DC I wont ever go back to that setup. I hated the rear suicide doors with a passion too, having to open the front doors just to open the back doors was really annoying.

I don't see why they'd quit making it, it's a top selling truck. That was one of the biggest complaints with the first gen double cabs when they came out was the lack of a long bed so Toyota brought in the option in 2005. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

I got the access cab because I live in a populated area and couldn't handle a DCLB and couldn't stand a DCSB but honestly if you think you will have kids or a car seat or people back there get the DC the AC is good in a pinch but every knows my truck fits basically one other person

I don't get why people think the DCLB is harder to maneuver than an ACLB or DCSB. It's only a foot and a half longer than they are at the most. The DCSB is built on the same chassis as the ACLB so they are the same length. Way I see it, if you have a hard time driving a DCLB around you probably shouldn't be driving at all imo.

I drive 18 wheelers all the time at work so these trucks feel like go carts to me after being in one of those big boys all day.

Wish I could get the DCLB with the off road package. Alot of my driving is in heavy wooded areas which I bowhunt in and with my ac it gets pretty tight in areas... really tight if I decide to drive to where the deer/hog has gone down. If I could get a DCLB trd off road..... hell I'd just cut down whatever needed to turn around. :sawzall: :p

Had an Access Cab. Ended up getting the DC. I needed the extra dry cargo space of the DC cause I live where it rains a lot. Nice to have the extra room in the cab.

If Toyota would build a DCSB with a 2.7, 5 speed manual, and 4x4, I'd have bought one. But they don't, so here I am with an access cab.

Serious question? Yes. Some people actually haul other people. If you don't want to have room for passengers and you want to fart around with trying to load groceries into your truck from a shopping cart in a parking lot with a car parked beside you, go for the access cab. I have driven an access cab a bunch of times for work and the suicide doors drive me nuts. I could do the double cab in a Tundra but never the access cab in a Tacoma. PITA.

Also, seems they are more prone to having squeaks and rubbing issues develop where the 2 door meet since both are hinged from the other side. I have a buddy with an 08 Access Cab - his door rubs on the bottom of the door sill and the latch squeaks and shimmys. Probably fixable and maybe not common but a weak point for sure.

If I ended up with a DCSB, I would completely remove the rear seats and mount a tool box and some storage boxes and other goodies back there and that would free me up from having to put a tool box on the SB. I gotta have a tool box and with a SB that doesn't leave much room left if placed in the bed. I'm usually solo in my truck and use the wife's 4runner when the family goes somewhere together. I think I would get more use from a DC setup this way while leaving the bed open. I've always used the bed of my trucks alot and I would feel better having most of my belongings locked up inside. A roof rack would be a bonus for my 10' ladder used for filling feeders. :)

    Too few to list.
We have an AC, DCSB, and DCLB. The AC is perfect for just two people but if you have or plan on having kids, or sitting more than 2, the DC is the way to go. AC backseats are useless for adults and very uncomfortable for any drive longer than 15-20 minutes.

Same for me, love my access cab from a look perspective, but will be buying a double cab next.

Yeah, I have a AC and I don't believe the backseats have ever been used. It's nice that the wife has the 4runner for the family wagon... she absolutely loves that thing after having it for over ten years now. I mentioned to her about getting a new one but her reply was the she wouldn't mind driving that one for another ten years. Daddy needs a new truck. :)

The DCLB perplexes me, it is so close in size to a 1/2 ton extra cab (one example, a Taco DCLB has a 140'' wheelbase compared to a Silverado Extra Cab 6' bed with 143")...not sure why people buy them. 1/2 ton you get more power, the same or better mileage (well except the Tundra), better payload/towing, can actually haul a sheet of plywood between the wheelwells...even in the extra cab, there is more rear seat leg room over the DCLB Taco.

It's really not that close. The DCLB is about 9 inches shorter than a Silverado extended cab with standard box. Not to mention about 5 inches more narrow. The "why don't you just go full size" question has been beat to death. Lots of reasons to stay in the mid size category.
