okay guys long story short i have a 2006 tacoma double cab pre-runner 2wd with a 6 inch lift installed i want to down size the lift as cheaply as possibly. From what i have gathered is since it is a drop bracket lift i pretty much have to buy a whole new lift =-( really don't have the money.any body know any way i could lower it maybe to around 4 inches instead of 6 inches. I see that rough country makes a 4 inch drop bracket lift that seems like the best option as far as money seeing that my rear cross member is cut and long gone i would have to stick to a drop bracket lift or find somone with the rear crossmember they cut out buy it and weld it back in .i saw some 4 inch lift spindles by maxtrec for 500 dollars wondering if i cut just swap out the spindles to achieve 4 inches instead of 6 but dont know if it even possible..kinda new to all this drop bracket stuff..any help is serously much appreciated im losing sleep over this lol

Yah that's the whole issue I'm having is that I'd have to either get another drop bracket lift or find someone that happens to have kept there x member and buy it from them and weld it in trying to find a easier work around that's also easier on the wallet

you'll have to have a fab shop weld in another crossmember

    Nofords08 did this same change.

Do you really want to go through all of this to drop it 2" - what's the reason that you want to go to 4 now?

Wondering the same thing. I wouldn't choose a 6" lift if I were starting from scratch but I don't think I'd be all that bummed out if I bought a used truck and it came already installed.

Your truck looks pretty great as is.

That is gonna be some serious work. And by looking at your inner tires and how worn they are compared to the outside of the tire. Something seems really out of whack. Unless it's just the picture quality or shadows. But they look really worn.

Can a RCD kit be used on a 2wd?

Not sure if I'd go through the trouble for 2".

I bought the truck off a friend who already installed the lift...the reason I'm wanting to do this is i feel like 6 is just to much even with all the cutting required to fit 35 they still rubbed at full turn and I feel it's to much for this size of a truck I tow and would like some power back I just bought brand new tires hopping it would look okay with 33s but I think it has to much of a gap in my opinion

still looks OK, I wouldn't worry too much - you can still tow. Make sure you get an alignment since your tire wear was pretty uneven

Yeah the tires were really worn alignment was way off  new tires 33s instead of 35s and aligned now I just have to figure out how to lower the lift a little

If I could do it all over I would have bought a stock truck and done the lift after reading all over this form it seems there much better lift options than this fabtech 3" seems to be really popular and I think the trucks look really good with that set up. Ideally that's what I would do but short on funds and trying to find a cheaper way if even possible
