Downside to owning a 4x4 is that there is no use for it when mall crawling. I should have gotten a PreRunner. :(

Nonsense! The curbs are easier to drive over in 4LO.

lols. well, my first truck ever was a 2wd. . . . lowered 04 chevy (cough, cough, what, no i didn't say anything, why would you think i said lowered chevy thats crazy. cough cough)

i got a girl pregnant and sold it for a 92 4x4 toyota pickup+ a car+cash. getting a 4x4 opened up an entire new hobby, something to do on the weekends, and now i can take my family to those places where not many people go. then during the week i can drool over gears, and axles, and t-case doublers, and t-case gears, and sliders, and skid-plates, and springs, and shocks, and bumpers, and tires. . . . its worth it. just as long as more drooling is done than spending

Downside to a 2wd Tacoma? Huge depreciation.

Any costs/maintenance there is to owning a 4x4 you get back when selling the vehicle...and then some.
No downside as far as I'm concerned.

Depends in where you are. Around me prerunners and 4x4 usually depreciate at about the same rate.

Now if you lived in the snow that would be a different situation.

4x4......pfffffft, don't need or want it. Yes I do drive in the snow too!! 4x4 is great if you off-road, But after owning several 4x4 pickups, only using it 2-3 times a year for snow days, I found it to be a waste. Too many 4x4 mall crawl fanboys around here. To each his own though.

Not really. 4x4 is where it's at!! Especially with lockers. A-Trac is for leased vehicles and drivers that don't know any better

Someday, you may have an A-TRAC Toyota, until then, stop guessing at what it can do. I have been four wheeling since before you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye. Jeeps, Chevy's, Subaru's and Tacomas.. all 4WD... got my first Jeep in 1975, drove my dad's Jeeps and Suburban before then. I am from old school days, but can appreciate new Toyota technology... you should too.

How can you wish for something that is so misunderstood or misrepresented here by people who either don't have it or have not used it (correctly)?

I know what it can do. We've done all kinds of tests and lockers always prevail. And no I would never own an A-Trac Toyota. If I would ever buy a new Taco, I would buy a sport and add lockers.
