Downsizing from 35’s

    Just picked up a truck with 35’s that has some clearance problems. Some rubbing during articulation and seems to have some issues at full lock as well.

    Not married to 35’s so looking to downsize to 33 or maybe even smaller?

    Total Chaos +3.5 long travel up front.

    Looking to possibly buy back some fuel economy and lose some unsprung weight at the same time. Not looking for “small” or “skinny” but a good middle of the road height, width, and weight…and no more clearance issues :)

    Also probably looking for a wheel set as well so any lightweight (but still strong) recommendations and desirable sizes/offsets appreciated as well.

    You don’t have to but I’m running 255/85/17

    Ive got a small arsenal of “dont care about gas mileage vehicles”. One with 44” and another with 46” tires. Im not looking for this truck to feel like a choppy slug when theres no need for it to. It used to live its life crawling and its not pulling that duty any more. Now its mostly highway miles and fairly volatile dirt/rock mountainside roads.

    Not looking to hammer or hack anything apart. Looking to get rid of the rubbing and get enough clearance where i can go ahead and try to fix the already cracked near clean through fiberglass fender.

    Truck is geared at 4.56

    I’m sorry I don’t understand “what wheel size?”
    I’m using a 1.5in wheel spacer. With a 2in lift.
    Using Falken WP 2 on Toyota 17in rims from a 3rd gen.

    I was asking OEM wheels vs aftermarket (if so what wheel) and 17in x (width) + wheel offset (relation of hub mounting surface to centerline of the wheel)

    Probably not as relevant to this truck as it’s running long travel but I've got other tacos with closer to stock setups so I’m still curious about what people are running.

I also had a set of 285/75-16 from my 03 Tacoma that fit right up so they have been swapped over. One photo shows what was pulled vs what ive got on there now. Seems free and clear on the steering/rubbing so far.

    Problem area in photos is driver side. The gap to the hood on that side is much wider than the passenger. But aside from that everything else seems symmetrical, at a glance anyways.

    Anyone who has spent some time in the classifieds recently may recognize this truck.

    And here’s the big tire stuff for anyone thats interested…

    F350 is running 44” MRAP wheels and tires and the LMTV runs 46’s. Probably not quite what you’d be expecting but who knows.
