Ashley Trail is off of Washington Mountain Road and runs south down to Whitney Place. I've driven some of Ashley Lake Rd. and the bad part of New Lenox Rd. before too.

They resurfaced Schermerhorn Rd. a year or so ago.

I don't remember Ashley Trail all that much. Or Ashley Lake Rd or New Lenox Road for that matter. How bad are they?

I also remember an area up into the woods by the "play area" at the intersection of County Rd and Schoolhouse Reservoir (County Rd and Schoolhouse No 2 Rd on Google Maps). I don't think it was on the map (as many of the trails at October Mtn aren't) but if you entered the woods through the back southern tip of the "play area" it was a difficult and fun set of trails.

We used to park at first in the ORV lot by Felton Pond on Schermerhorn, then later on in the lot by Schoolhouse Trail before they closed that section, then before we stopped riding there we parked by Felton again. There's no way to get a truck onto the trails by Felton (gates and such deliberately blocking people from doing so) but there were some pretty rough sections around there. Switchback Trail and that area was a lot of 4wd action.

Schermerhorn...about time they fixed it. It could get hairy going up it in the rain/snow with the truck/trailer combo...

Ashley Trail gets pretty bad once you get past Ashley Lake Rd (heading south). In a DCLB the wheelbase starts to become an issue, and it's narrow with no way to turn around.

Ashley Lake Rd. isn't too bad. Mostly driving on grass there. New Lenox Rd was the worst of the bunch if I remember correctly.

If you're up for it, I'd love to explore October again sometime in the winter or spring. Better to do so with a few of us than alone...

To be honest, I don't really wheel my truck at this point. I did some for a while, but I no longer have a desire to replace front end parts or spend hours cleaning mud and rocks out of it and buffing out scratches. In the winter with some packed snow and no leaves to weigh branches into the trails I'd do it. But that depends how much snow we get.

Fair enough. In that case I'll ask around and see if anybody wants to explore with me. Would be happy to take you as a passenger if you would want to join.

You're heading to ME for the golden road? If you guys are looking for some wheeling next weekend, the ENH Fall Crawl is happening.

Pretty sure there is no cap on rigs for this event, and those guys know the bomb trails in NH.

Some are also doing the fluid thing nex weekend. I would be up for a "tour of" Maine via dirt/back roads next year. Make a nice weekend out of it if possible.
