About to give up on this cb. Just took another crack at it. Everywhere I have read has said most likely the RF out fails due to a poor ground. So this time I tried grinding down the paint and coated surfaces of the mount and where the mount attached to the truck and nothing same RF out fail. Tried adding a ground wire from the mount to the truck. Nothing same RF fail. Buy a new radio?

Went to the "hill" today for a snack with the zoo animals.
Place was crawling with leaf peepers.

Doc tagged me earlier when you were trying to solve this. I don’t know too much about radios and their tech, but I had grounding trouble at first.

The antenna slug was making contact w the mount and causing some issue. Once we drilled out the hole, the nylon washer was able to keep the contacts apart and solved my issue.

Maybe try a different mounting location? The science behind communications is over my head at the moment. :anonymous:

Could the coax have been sliced and compromised? Try a new coax cable?

Do you have a voltmeter? You could check your grounds and what nots.

    Can't wait for this trip!
Installed my CB this weekend as well as my mobtown sliders. I don't know how well tuned my antenna is, I don't have a meter, but as soon as I got power to the radio and turned it on I was picking up someone's conversation so I guess it works

Thanks for the input. The nylon washer is sitting flush no issue there I don't believe cause I double checked that. I pulled all my coax earlier there's no kinks or slices. Volts are good when I check. The mounted is bolted in to the same spot I have my 3rd brake light on my shell grounded. I ground down the paint to even make sure there was better contact and still just an RF fail. At this point I think I'm going to order a new radio
