Like the title says I pulled a bone head move and drained the Trans fluid by accident when I was doing an oil change. I've looked at a bunch of older threads and they seem to have a different set up then my Tacoma. Can anyone point me to a thread that addresses the specifics to my 2012 Tacoma, or at the least some info and where the fill plug is for the Trans fluid. I'm fine with just replacing the amount that was removed.

The fill for the 4 speed auto on the 2.7 is the dip stick. Remove the dip stick, use a funnel to add trans fluid. I had just drained and refilled mine. Took 4 qts.

It's really that easy? It seemed so complicated on the earlier models. I drained just under 4qts so I'm going to replace it with the same amount.

Normally I have it more together. Next time I'll do an oil change when I haven't pulled an all nighter at work. Lessened learned, won't do that again.

Dog friendly, with dog snot on inside windows, with of course a/c! Mag 16 inch wheels from a Mazda.
I've almost done that to my Subaru, so I hit the transmission plug/pan with yellow spray paint. Just to let me or whoevers doing the work, to think about what they're about to drain.

On the atf dip stick there are three marks. I assume one is low and one is high, What's the middle mark?

Also just want to confirm with one more person that the atf fluid is filled via the dipstick on an 2012 2.7 Tacoma. Not that I don't trust car78412.... I just want to be 100 percent sure... Today has been the day of bonehead moves and I just want to not do another.

Not 'earlier' but the sealed unit (no dipstick) models that are behind V6s. Our transmissions are more traditional in architecture, with the bonus of a drain plug, which you already found. :D

I'd put in whatever it takes to read full under the conditions you should have to read the dipstick properly. You don't know if it was spot on, high or low previously. I'd probably put in a little over 3 qts, then start checking and adding, repeat till it's good.

It may take exactly what you drained............. or not.

If your old fluid is still pretty red and smells good, you can save some of it to use in a hand operated oil can. Trans fluid often makes a great lubricant for project work. Not to mention its good for an initial cleaning of your hands when they are real greasy. All the detergents really cut through that stuff. (of course you still clean up with a good hand cleaner and water to save your hide). I've also used trans fluid on workboots that you oil instead of polish. Does a nice waterproofing job.
