Dreaded P11EC Error Code - Check Engine

Oh for sure.

It would totally suck if this happened outside the warranty, what a huge repair bill.

Im way past the warranty so hopefully my baby will be fine to at least 300k miles or so.

 

If it helps, bigoldbeef has had P11ED for like 75K and he just keeps driving on it lol. The code remains there, but he keeps trucking along. I would consider trying that if the issue happened to me out of warranty. If I needed anything I'd probably go the used motor route as opposed to doing all the work to replace valves and cylinder head on the existing engine.

 

He has got like 330k miles or something like that, crazy. And that truck doesn’t live an easy life.

Yeah I would just get a used motor as well.

 

I have done somewhere between 5-8 Tacomas and 2 Highlanders for this issue over the last few years. Ever one was right in the 50-55k mile range. And they were all 2018 or 2019's.

Like @BLtheP stated. It's always the same bank. So what makes this bank of cylinders special? I know on the 4 liter engines, the heads were built in two different plants, which is why one had NGK and the other Denso plugs. I wonder if this is the same senecio? And there was an issue at the one plant.

 

I always wondered why the 2nd gen had the 2 different spark plugs.

 

We have had a few "special" customers who knew that they came with 2 different brand plugs, and demanded we replaced them like they came from the factory.

 

You should divide by the number of 3rd gens on this forum, around 100k (out of 359k total), so that's 0.03%

 

And that they are still covering it under warranty with the Tune on it
