Drilled Gas Tank

Hello,

Just had my 2021 Tacoma (5000 miles) gas tank drilled in Southern California....really pissed me off.

Based on my Google search it looks like Tacoma's are easy targets.

Has anyone brought this to Toyota's attention

 

Whats Toyota going to do about that?

Should be a textbook insurance claim. Sucks you'll be out the deductible.

People are shitty. Take that insurance money and buy a used tank and whatever is left over for stainless steel tank skid.

 

Move to a place you can leave the truck outside running for hours .

After getting distracted

 

before talking to your insurance, file the report in the city that the crime occurred in. Insurance will ask for that report #.

 

Hate to hear it, Rick. Maybe a steel gas tank skid plate would deter someone next time.

Can you drain the tank and then epoxy the hole?

 

Normally my truck is in my garage but was cat sitting for two weeks with my wife and had to park on the road...although not sure where it actually happened.

Insurance covered the repair and the rental minus $500. It will not impact my rates since is was filed under comprehensive.

Not sure what Toyota could do other than not making the tank less visible or easy to get to....anyway

I guess the part that bugs me is even if they got caught they would just get a slap on the hand and i would still have to pay my $500

Turn it in on your insurance with your comprehensive deductible and have the dealer do the work. They can tow it in for you. Don't buy used parts. Used gas tanks are full of crud you don't want in your fuel injection system. Probably worth while to notify your local police department of the damage.

 

Also, invest in a home security camera system, park in a garage if possible, maybe a dash cam.

 

truck is already repaired and the insurance was great....

 

Ever since my Dad got a push to start vehicle this has happened pretty often. He comes out of Walmart and wonders why his doors are not locked. Climbs in and low and behold he never tuned the dang thing off. I keep telling him when it is beeping at you it is trying to tell you something

Man thats terrible, i havent even heard about that happening. Cant believe people would do that.
