This may seem trivial, but I’m wondering if anyone has drilled a hole in this support to aid in drainage. I’ve noticed this has been a pocket for salt, sand, and road debris. It seems like an area that will cause premature corrosion.

    Depends on the hole size.
“Should” be fine, don’t go too big.

I’d say either dill it or fill it in with something to keep the salt out.

I’d go with 2 small 1/8” holes. On in front and one behind where the bump stop contacts the pad.

you could easily drill out a 1/2" hole and be fine

You won't hurt that by drilling a hole in it.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I second this two tiny holes will be plugged really fast.

I think that'll be the plan then. Would it be advisable to prime and paint? I use Fluid Film every winter too, but it that pocket seems to be a rust spot just waiting to happen.
