I will be removing my OEM roof rack and installing new drip molding and clips onto my roof. Do I need any double sided tape or anything like that? Thanks

Or even some sort of tape to cover the holes? I am waiting on a rack I ordered and will be selling the OEM ones soon

Silicone the holes. Use silicone to secure weather strip as well. Or use some 3m double sided tape for weather stripping. Make sure to clean the channels really well with some alcohol.

    Thanks for the tips

And then just chip out the silicone when I install the new rack?

Just enough of it to get the bolt started, and then the bolt will push the rest through. Use silicone when you install the new rack too. I didn't with my bajarack and got a leak on the driver's side when it rained heavily. It went away immediately after I caulked it.

Standard clear silicone from Home Depot is perfect, you don't need anything fancy here. Something like https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Adva...CH=REC-_-plpbrowse_multi-_-NA-_-100179996-_-N

You'll be able to rip it off. Cleaning it out of the hole might prove more difficult though. How long before your new rack?

I'm thinking if it's just temporary to put some electric tape down over the holes then use silicone once the new rack arrives.

That’s exactly what I thought too but it’s supposed to be a ridiculously rainy week or two here on the east coast

Yeah that's what I would do. Silicone doesn't like to adhere to other dried silicone. And it might be hard to get every chunk out.

Clean the area, put down e-tape over the holes, run a bead of silicone around the edge of the tape. Should make it easier to clean off the temporary silicone and keep the threads clean for when the new rack is in.

Factory just comes with a sticker covering the hole under the weather stripping, so anything more than a sticker should be fine.
