have 2002 tacoma 4x4 with drivability issues.
fist thing i notices was the temp gauge was fluctuating from normal to hot so i replaced thermostat which did not solve problem but then i noticed that transmission was not shifting properly [ taking to long to shift to next gear]
then a few days later while driving at highway speed the transmission acted as thought it was in neutral and temp gauge peaked out at top indicating engine was hot. then i noticed that temp gauge would swing up and down in unison with RPM's [ as rpms go up and down so does temp gauge]
so here is current situation and what i know about issue
    1. when temp gauge goes up and peaks at top the engine is NOT hot. i did replace engine temp sensor with no resolution and every time key switch is turned off the temp gauge quickly peaks out up past hot and the drops to off position
    2. when shifted to drive it might drive normally or it might stall engine as though its in 3rd or 4th gear. if it does drive normal it will then stall engine the first time brake is applied AND at this point there will be no reverse and engine will stall if drive is selected. but reverse and drive both will be restored is key switch is turned off and engine is restarted.
    3. transmission fluid smells and looks normal in color.
    4. check engine light is on with one code P1135 so i replaced up flow O2 sensor which did not clear code and code returns when cleared with hand held scanner.
    5. took it to local transmission shop and none of their equipment would communicate with vehicle. they tried three different scanners. kinda puzzling cause my cheap hand held will talk with it. anyway after dive test they where leaning more towards an ECM problem than transmission.

well ...all of this was caused by a bad TCC solenoid

Did the TCC solenoid also get rid of your P1135 code? My truck is having an IDEAL problem and I also have the P1135 code.
