Been having the driveline clunk for almost two years now trying to trouble shoot. it occurs when accelerating/decelerating/getting back on throttle/incline/decline. sometimes it is mild sometimes it violently shakes the cab on a cold morning. but it occurs at random.

learned of the slip yoke issues others are experiencing and went to grease the slip yoke after ordering all the necessary parts. climbed under the truck and there was no accordion boot to remove, just solid driveshaft from rear diff to carrier bearing which has a good 1/8 to 1/4" of play which leads me to believe it is the carrier bearings fault or U joints, but the U joints don't move at all and seem solid.

Going insane trying to fix this if anyone has any ideas I'm down to hear it.

I’d probably just replace the center bearing.

I had a similar clunk but not as bad, carrier bearing replacement eliminated it, I got the spicer bearing from rockauto and it even had Toyota stamped on the rubber section

Update: had driveshaft inspected by a shop. nothing is wrong with it. took a ride with the mechanic, best guess stuck throttle body leading to clunk.

Or maybe a new u joint or carrier bearing, no need for a new driveshaft

    Get a new mechanic!

first off, are you 2WD? Because if you are that would explain why you can’t find a slip yoke on your DS. 2WD have it at the tail housing of the transmission and there for use a different carrier bearing.

If it’s not axle wrap, or u-joints, then it may be torque converter shudder (can you cancel the symptoms by lightly tapping the brake - just enough to trigger brake switch?) or an issue with vvti actuators
