Yeah I figured, can't they see how many times you redline it anyways by scanning diagnostics at the dealership?

I got so many smart devices "listening" but to get any good useable data, they're going to need to sift through a whole lotta Netflix, me yelling at Call of Duty and bodily functions.

If I had that app installed they'd probably call to recruit me to the TRD team, show their other drives how to eek every last bit of performance from their vehicles. :burnrubber:

Well as for behavior modification, if we could whip our kids like our parents whipped us this world wouldn't be in as much of a mess as it is in now. Roughly half of the country wants to modify the behavior of the other half. I damn sure know what half I'd like to open a can of...

This app is nothing more than Big Brother's overreach, again, into our private lives, collecting a dossier of information about us that is available to the highest bidder, basically, available to everyone but us. Don't believe me? Ever heard of the Healthcare Information Exchange? All the way down to your pharmacist gets to see a ton of shit about you. BUT, go ask your doctor for a copy of your medical records. MAYBE they will SELL you a copy. Sell you information about you, basically intellectual property that you funded.

    Fast Acceleration!?!

    Tacoma and Fast Acceleration....

Even when out of the break-in period

In seriousness, I'd recommend people start looking into what the 2020's + Tacomas (and other brands of vehicles) actually transmit and the data that they record...

There have been a few threads that touched on how bad it really is... (GPS route with actual vs posted speed limits, gas /brake pedal and wheel positions positions, camera, mic, etc etc etc)

This app gives people an idea of what data would be shared with an insurance company. Toyota is already doing it in Japan.

This part of it is basically the same as a dongle or a insurance phone app that "Judges You" for a discount.

Insurance broker here. These apps are marketed as "discount" apps. They are not. They inform the insurance company of "adverse selection" within their book of business. They surcharge WAY more than they discount. Net/Net, more profit for them, less privacy for you, and higher insurance costs for people like me who like to drive 5-10 mph over the speed limit.

I opted out after running it for a few months. I averaged somewhere between 85 and 90. Here in northeast PA, you can't get on or off most highway exits without harsh cornering/braking and the short entrance ramps mean you have to hit the accelerator to blend in with the speed of traffic.

im sure this info is being sold to insurance companies to determine what our rates will be in the future for tacoma owners.

I did the same with an Apple Watch and another weight loss app. Definitely modified my behavior. I get more exercise and make better choices when eating and I've lost about 60 lbs doing that so far. Not all behavior modification is bad.

Oh, my score stays in the mid 90s and I agree, it really doesn't take much to get "harsh cornering." lol

Data collection from what we drive has
Data collection out of our vehicle has been happening for a very long time. The only difference now days is that they're putting it on our face. I remember reading something about it when I got my '06 TRD sport. can't remember if it was in the manual but it even mentioned cameras. I don't worry about it. like I said before. there is just no way of stopping it other than getting off of the grid completely. and seriously. how many of us are going to give up every comfort we are accustomed to and go live under a rock....Lol.

Most likely. but you don't have to install the app. for them to get your data. my 2017 had the basic HU. and was able to download updates without connecting to my phone or even have the phone with me. I prefer to be somewhat involved in my data giving. even if is just for the fun of it.

I use the safe pilot app with USAA, it doesn't seem too strict, i get lots of harsh braking dings and it doesn't affect my score, it seems all they look for is cell phone usage while driving which i am strictly against.
