So there are a bunch of different part numbers for the drive shaft that I'm finding. My truck does not have one, so I have no idea what was OEM and am hoping to pick one up second hand. When I go though the compatibility checker on a site selling these . My truck fits 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 below.

    37100-04410 - Tacoma. Rwd. 127 wheelbase. 2wd, 3.5L, 5 ft bed
    37100-04420 - Tacoma. Rwd. 140 wheelbase. 2wd, 3.5L, 6 ft bed.
    37100-04430 - Tacoma. Rwd. 2wd, 2.7L.
    37100-04440 - Tacoma. 4wd. 127 wheelbase. 3.5L, 5 ft bed, auto trans.
    37100-04450 - Tacoma. 4wd. 140 wheelbase. 3.5L, 6 ft bed, 3.5L, 6 ft bed.
    37100-04460 - Tacoma. 4wd. 127 wheelbase. 3.5L, 5 ft bed, manual trans.
    37100-04470 - Tacoma. 4wd. Manual trans. 2.7L, auto trans.
    37100-04480 - Tacoma. 4wd. Auto trans. 2.7L, manual trans.

So it seems that the dependent variable here is the engine size and that wheelbase, and transmission, 2wd/4wd are irrelevant?

This doesn't sound right to me, but I'm new to owning a truck so who knows. If anyone can shine some light on this, that would be great.

You are NOT reading that part list correctly.
Pay attention to the SECOND LAST DIGIT of the part number. That indicates that these ARE, in fact, different parts.
You need to find the part number of the line that has a description that actually matches your vehicle.

For example, if you have a DOUBLE CAB SHORT BED 4WD WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, you will pick 37100-04440.
If you have a DOUBLE CAB LONG BED 2WD, you will pick part number 37100-04420.

Also, how the heck do you not have a driveshaft? If you didn't have one, you wouldn't be able to drive it.

That's what I was wondering, if the sites compatibility checker was broken/wrong since it was saying I would fit a bunch of drive shafts that I thought had to differ based on description.

I bought the truck with driveshaft and axle housing damage, so I'm trying to pick the pieces up secondhand off a vehicle with front damage.
