Early ones had a plug. The plan was to take the plug out grease it with a point and put it back in or throw it away and put a fitting in. Personally I would beat the old joint out I don't think it trashed the drive yoke, may look ugly but probably will work just fine. What does the bolt on piece look like? That joint has been bad for awhile.

The joint didn't have a hole... it was a plastic ring. On my 07 it has those on the front diff joints (oem.) Grease escaped out of joints like normal... the plastic rings i assume were there to keep dirt out like the rubber version and had a tiny hole (maybe 2) to let grease escape so they wouldn't break from too much pressure while greasing. Just looked at mine... the rear joints don't look they have them. In the 3rd and 4th picture you can see black rings... one side intact, other side broken.

edit: looks like the plastic dust caps/rings might have been discontinued years ago due to them being brittle and breaking... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forum...5-spicer-solid-u-joint-cracked-dust-caps.html
