Guess it's normal not to have them. My sons 2016 sr has them in the rear shaft with a standard trans. I also had them in my 2007.

5 on mine. If it's a 2016 2wd should have zero. Not sure about 17 models.

Based on the data on this forum, the switch was made (from rear driveshaft zerks to none in the back) in mid to late June 2016 or early July. You can view your truck's build date on the driver side door card (month/year format)

This also assumes that everyone in that last thread isn't totally lost and knows where to looks for those zerks.

Well, knowing that my '03 has 195,000 miles on the original u joints that have been greased every 7000 miles or so makes me happy that my '16 has grease fittings on the u joints. I have no experience with u joints that can't be greased but I have a hard time believing those will last as long.

I wonder why they would have opted to remove them for later models?

Probably because so many people who can't grease a u joint complained and cost the service departments a ton of time doing something that wasn't needed when the folks here demanded it. I never really saw why the whole u joint fiasco had the legs it did.

I know the shit storm is coming from this statement but I stand by my opinion.

Maybe it's just me but do you see the contradiction here? You're saying you've got close to 200k on your 1st gen and greased the driveshafts regularly. Then you say you don't understand why people asked a service department to grease their truck's driveshaft...after just making a comment about how this possibly contributed to longevity.

No shit storm from me though.

That said I bet that's exactly why Toyota got rid of the zerks on the rear shaft (because people were complaining about them being delivered dry). I'm not saying that's the right thing to do but it was probably the cheaper one.
