Driveline Operating Angle

    I know this has been talked about a lot in many threads, because my head is spinning from reading so many of them.

    The operating angle seems to be somewhat of a variable target based on what I've seen, and I wanted to get some feedback from the members who have actually resolved their vibration through tuning this angle alone. Specifically interested in hearing from the 3rd Gen. stock, or lifted, and preferably long bed with OEM driveshaft.

    Video from Toyota Technical says between the three U-joints the angle target is .5°.

    Spicer manual attached (p12) says 3° or less

    Toyota Service Bulletin attached varies from 1.41°-3.41°(P.15)

    I can say for certain that with the new Springs 48220-04481 & 48210-04841 that my ride height is off, and the ride is slightly stiffer, there's no change in vibration, and there's a stupid amount of axel wrap when driving. In a video, under light to moderate on-road driving it appears to be moving the pinion yoke up 1-1/2" and down 1" (estimated). Overall I'm really surprised to see as much axel wrap, and it's not surprising that I'm getting U-joint bind.

    The Geometry of the U Joints and Driveline ideally would be that they are all of an equal angle otherwise there's problems.

    I go by keeping the transfer case to 1st driveshaft (1st working angle) 0.5-0.8deg.
    1st driveshaft to 2nd. (2nd working angle) should be equal to the 2nd driveshaft to rear diff. (3rd working angle)
    Both those angles should be between 1-3deg.
    For example.
    'If' 2nd working angle is 1.4 deg. the 3rd working angle should be 1.4 deg

    So armed with more information than I should need to know about driveline angles, today I measured the angles, and then removed the rear shaft, and drove in 4Hi. To my surprise the problem became tremendously worse. Now it's harshly vibrating from 20-55, and far worse braking.

    I removed the drums to check the axel hub OD, measured in accordance with T-SB-0023-19 (even though technically NA). The hubs came into spec having a .003 deviation. Drums did not have a referenced dimension, but seems to be acceptable with a .002 variance.

    Front operating angle:2.8°
    Center Joint angle: 2.5°
    Pinion operating angle: 1.2°

    All taken from zero'd out at TC yoke.

    Reassembled, installed rear drive shaft, adj. brakes, rotated the tires, and torqued all to specs. Test drove and back to normal braking only vibration.

    With both shafts installed, in 4H it's perhaps only slightly better vs. 2WD.
