that helps rule that IT IS rear driveline issue.... converter lockup doesnt occur till 31mph under VERY light loads.... typically around 45 under normal driving.

The shudder at 40mph from the torque converter flex lockup is VERY different from the issue that this TSB and thread are about. I know, as I have both issues. (Lucky me)

There is no way someone could confuse one for the other. The driveline vibration that the TSB addresses occurs ONLY between about 15-25 mph, and then goes away. It also requires at least "moderate" acceleration. If I really take it easy when taking off, it won't vibrate.

The "shudder" that is being talked about occurs under totally different circumstances. In my case, it is at exactly 40 mph....not 42, not 38, with only enough pressure on the accelerator to just maintain that exact speed.

I'm pretty confident, based on the feedback from some people who have had it done, that the TSB will finally take care of the first issue. (Assuming that they get the measurements right and order the correct springs)

As for the 2nd one, I'm already starting to hear the "characteristic of the vehicle" line. That said, I think they are still going to reset the ECU and change the trans fluid. We will see how that goes.

yes exactly... so lets leave the torque converter shudder out of this thread.

Received a phone call from my dealership. They are going to order the 3+1 pack and the insulator. I hope this works!

....and the fun continues. I couldn't make this up if I tried.

It appears that Toyota is finally finished with all of the BS testing they were making the dealer go through, but get this:

They want them to install the steering wheel isolator and new mount, and then re-measure all the angles before ordering the new leafs.

Looks like the truck will now be there at least until Tuesday...probably longer based on what has happened so far.

Same thing occurred with my truck. I got the same call from the dealership, but they still felt the vibe after the isolator and mount install so new leafs went on. Which meant another day of waiting. I actually just got the call that its ready so I am on my way to go get it now. I can report back how it all worked out this evening. Going to be great to get out of this Prius I have been in since Monday.

So just picked up my truck and from the miles I have driven so far the vibration is gone. Truck feels great, much smoother than before and the new leaf springs look damn good, not in the fact that they are beefy or awesome, but because they don't have the surface rust the other ones had hahaha. So, overall, I am pleased for now. We will see how it fares over the coming miles.

Would you mind listing the part numbers for the springs you got installed? Also, the specs of your truck?

    Certainly,

Part No.'s for springs from my receipt and what matches the tsb:

    48220-04300
    48210-04660

My truck is a 2012 TRD Sport DCSB that had the 3+1 springs from the factory.

Let me know what else I can provide.

this is because that is the exact process the tsb describes.

    First steering wheel dampener installed.

Did it fix it? (no its just a bandaid) proceed to step 2

    Install shorter rear transmission mount.

Did it fix it? (not likely) proceed to step 3

Measure driveline angles now as they have changed due to rear transmission mount. Reference table, order and install leaf packs.

They need to do the first 2 instalations before doing measuring to get to the leaf packs.

I understand that the mount has to be installed before doing the measuring. My issue is that the truck had to be there for 3 full days before they even ordered the damper and the mount.

They should also know that there's about a 0% chance that the damper and the mount alone would ever fix the problem, considering those are the same parts that were in the last TSB. (Which we know was pulled because it didn't do anything)

To be honest if there is I can hardly tell. The truck looks about the same if not a tad higher but that could just be because I haven't seen the truck in a couple days. I will take measurements and see what the measurements come out to be.

I will say the new leaf springs due look a bit beefier (maybe thicker) than the prior springs. But again, I am going off just visual cues without actual measurements so that could be a bogus estimate by me. Like I said it has been 5 days since I have seen my truck.

im pretty sure if you wanted stiffer leafs there is a "rear spring harsh ride" tsb for up to the 2011's that will get you the 3+1 leaf pack.

If you have driveline vibrations and your truck fits the qualifications for the new TSB, you could very well ask for the "firm ride" springs which are a 3+1 leaf pack... but add about 1* to any measurements you do from the 2+1 pack as the 3+1 gives some extra lift in the rear, increasing pinion angle.

OK understandable...well if its not covered I'm sure at some point in time I'll do an aal or new leaf pack...I have plenty of time to figure out what I'm going to do since I've only had the truck for 2 months, lots of love and options to come for this Taco. Thanks again!

Im sorry... but if you have sagging issues with minimal weight the truck is not preforming to spec.

There are multiple TSB's that will cover you getting a 3+1 leaf pack.

if the dealer is unwilling to move you to the Firm Ride leaf pack for the driveline vibration tsb. You have the TSB atached... the rear spring harsh ride (which meant you were running on the bump stops due to the weak 2+1 pack).

Simply show them that... and be like look. I can make you guys do the rear spring harsh ride TSB... then make you do the driveline tsb with the 3+1 pack because you now have a 3+1 pack... or just save everyone time and money and do the driveline tsb with a 3+1 pack to begin with and simply account for the inch or so of lift by using a floor jack under the hitch when you take your angle measurements.

Believe me... if you make enough of an issue out of it in a respectful manor with the proper paperwork to back you up... they will have to do it. Its been a 3 month long process for me to get a 3+1 leafpack on my TRD OR but come march 13th they will be installing exactly what i told them to order.
