Good point. My 06 is affected. Can you tell me if the new leaf pack from the recall is likely to resolve the issue? I know we do not know what they look like yet.

no one can tell you anything meaningful about your issue

unless you get under there and do some measuring with a protractor
and post up those measurements, along with the specific new part numbers you are getting

    in other words...nope. or maybe.

when you have the recall done be VERY persistent in getting the 3+1 leaf pack

Should solve alot of the axle wrap issues.

I'm willing to bet you that this is why it's taking so long to get the ball rolling for the safety recall. They know they had better have the angle of the axle perfect before replacing the springs. Can you imagine the backlash if you have a truck that didn't vibrate but after the safety recall springs were installed you did. I think and hope we all benefit from the new springs-correction of the pinion angle which is controlled by the springs.

Thanks 1. I was expecting something more massive. LOL

My low-speed shudder seems to be getting slowly worse with age, and the driveshaft "bump" while stopping is getting worse too.

I haven't tried to shim the pinion or carrier brg yet, but I intend to have a serious go at it this Summer.

Also I have some engine mount mods in mind. The stock mounts are pretty floppy for a truck engine.

A few members have noticed the middle ujoint being 90 degrees out of phase and wondered whether it could be rotated by reorienting the spline shaft. A few days ago I took the drive shaft off once again and decided to take a peek under the rubber boot.

The splines are formed in a way that it appears the whole section can be rotated 180 degrees but not 90 degrees without major modifications to the shaft. It is not permitted to rotate 90 degrees because two adjacent splines were made so that not a deep enough valley forms between them and functionally blocks out any intermediate steps of rotation.

A permanent blue glycote type of coating was on mine. My slip joint had very little grease inside and as a preemptive measure I decided to lube it per the Ford TSB for clunking drive lines that was traced to that part of the drive shaft. I thus implemented my own TSB based on the Ford fix. Basically I liberally lubed the splines with both Honda 60 (Moly 60) grease and a high PTFE grease (Superlube EP).

I believe that what's important in a multi-shaft system is that the two ends are in phase. What ever's in the middle, be it 2 shafts or more, is gonna pump around pretty much all the time as angles and loads change.

But if the two ends are in phase & the last shaft has parallel yokes & things are stable enough in the middle carrier(s), the trans shaft and pinion will sing a happy tune.

    If not, they get pummeled.

I think mine moves too much due to no lube, and I think the carrier rubber is soft, & I intend to address that.

This is in my plan as well. I have some Mazda factory stuff that's amazing.

Just got an ‘08 4x4 V6 A/T and it had the “clunk”. From what I can tell, the 4x4’s weren’t a part of the TSB. Anyone else had the “clunk” in a 4x4? I saw that the TSB was extended to 12yrs from the service date, so if I’m covered I need to hurry!
